Happy Quasquicentennial: Events Planned As Glenview Turns 125 In June

The Village of Glenview officially turns 125 on June 20, with events scheduled leading up to the date and beyond.

GLENVIEW, IL — It's called a quasquicentennial, or 125 years, and the Village of Glenview will be celebrating this birthday next month. According to officials, a group of representatives from the Village of Glenview, Glenview Park District, Glenview Public Library, Glenview Chamber of Commerce, Glenview History Center and Glenview School District 34 have been planning several programs and events this summer to celebrate the occasion with the entire community.

  • Glenview 125 Proclamation, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, Glenview Village Hall. The Board of Trustees will issue a proclamation ringing in the 125 celebration along with a speaker from the Glenview History Center. A ceremonial birthday cake will also be presented.
  • Glenview History Center Art Exhibition, May 16 through July 16 Glenview Public Library, 1930 Glenview Road. View artwork from the Glenview History Center's collection spanning 125 years of Glenview history.
  • Glenview 125 Mural Unveiling, Thursday, June 20, Public Works Service Center, 2498 East Lake Ave. The 125 Committee partnered with the Glenview Art League to commission a public mural on the northeast corner of East Lake and Shermer. The artwork will commemorate Glenview's culture, people and history.
  • A Celebration of Glenview, 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20, Glenview Public Library, 1930 Glenview Road. Celebrate the Village's history on the 125th anniversary of the Village's incorporation. Presented in partnership with the Glenview Public Library and Glenview History Center.
  • Summer Fest, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, Lehigh Avenue and Jackman Park. This perennial Glenview festival organized by the Glenview Chamber will be devoted to Glenview's 125th birthday, with giveaways, prizes and the usual assortment of food, entertainment and all the best Glenview has to offer. Special performances by Glenview students will take place in the Jackman Park gazebo.
  • "Step Back in Time: Exploring Historic Downtown Glenview," Saturday, June 29, Downtown Glenview. Take a guided walking tour of downtown Glenview. Meet at the Glenview Public Library's South Patio. Presented in partnership with the Glenview Public Library, Glenview History Center, and the Friends of Downtown Glenview.
  • Fourth of July Celebration, July 4, Downtown Glenview. The culmination of the 125 celebration comes at the Fourth of July Parade. The theme of this year's parade is Past, Present and Future to celebrate Glenview's 125th birthday. Be on the lookout for special 125-themed giveaways on the parade route.
  • Heritage Trees Walk, 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25, Glenview New Church Parking Lot, 74 Park Drive. Join Glenview's Natural Resources Manager, Robyn Flakne, and environmentalist Kent Fuller for a pleasant tour of local Heritage Trees. Discover the program's significance and explore the rich history of Glenview's natural treasures.
