Hong Kong sees its number of tickets to the Paris Olympics increase to 31 after Lo Wai-fung gets awarded the first-ever Taekwondo Olympic qualification after the disqualification of another player.

Lo, who participated in the Taekwondo Olympic Games qualification Asia held in Shandong, China, during mid-March, won three consecutive games in the 68kg or below weight class before falling to Afghan rival Ali Reza Abbasi from the IOC Refugee Olympic Team, winning bronze.

However, only the top two players are able to gain entry into the Olympics, meaning Lo fell short of his goal to reach the grand event.

But later, some qualified players were found not to have met the qualification criteria, including Abbasi, who failed to meet the requirements to represent the IOC Refugee Olympic Team, and had the qualification removed from him, which was then given to Lo, who finished third.

This marks the first time Hong Kong has qualified for the event since Taekwondo became an Olympic sport back in 2000.

This will also be Hong Kong's 31st ticket so far to the upcoming Paris Olympics.
