Car rental or taxis?

Hi,

We’ll be visiting Vegas for 5 nights in September and staying at the Cosmopolitan.

I have reduced mobility since having a serious illness so the walking we did before won’t be an option.

We’d like to go to Downtown Vegas and also the designer outlets etc.

Would it be best (most cost effective) to rent a car or take taxis?

I think you're better off taking taxis/Ubers. Keep in mind the parking garages at hotels are often a good walk. Taxis get you as close as possible to the door. The same applies to the outlets. I drove to the north outlet and the garage was a lot further than the taxi drop off.

You have to do a bit of homework and find out the cost of a rental car. Then add gas and parking fees. My guess is that taxis and Ubers will be cheaper.

Ten years ago, a rental car was an easy choice.

These days, rental cars aren't the most cost effective option unless you are planning on visiting outside the city. The rental fees are much higher and parking rates are substantial. Downtown still has some parking with free or validated parking, but on the strip, you'll be limited to parking at properties affiliated with your home hotel or where you have players club status to avoid additional fees.

A mobility scooter rental would also be a good option since it can be used for lots of trips you would normally walk and can be used inside the casinos.

Years ago rentals would beat every other option for convenience but the way the pricing is for rentals its just not worth it. Even Ubers you are having to walk a long way in some properties.

So id recommend taxis as they are closest to the entrance.

I would get your own car.

Ubers/taxis can leave you standing waiting in line.

With your own car you have more control regarding this.

Another vote for taxis. Rentals have a lot of headaches and costs have gone up too much. Don’t forget to add insurance…no thanks

#5 - They have mobility issues. Self parking is really far in a lot of cases.

I agree with the use of taxis when you have limited mobility. Its rare to wait too long for a cab and in most cases there is a line of them waiting for you. have fun

Rental car has never been more conveninet that walking out to a waiting taxi, get in and go , driven to and then dropped off right at the door of your destination.
