Yakima County firefighters combat massive 100-acre Harlan Landing fire

YAKIMA, Wash.-- *UPDATE*-- The fire is now contained. Lange confirmed to us there are hot spots in the area which will smoke for a few days, but nothing is in danger and no evacuations are ordered. No injuries and structural damage were reported. The firefighter who was treated for a heat-related illness did not require medical transportation and is okay.

Fire departments in Yakima County responded to a fire near Harlan Landing in Yakima, which is estimated to be 100 acres in length.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, which is about 70 percent contained.

Dozens of firefighters and even a helicopter have been working the fire so far.

"[We] have approximately 55 firefighters on scene, 22 pieces of apparatus, the departments that responded were Selah, Yakima Training Center, Gleed, Yakima Fire Department, East Valley, and we got mutual aid from the [Washington State Department of Natural Resources] and that's where the air resources are coming from the helicopter flying around," said Jim Lange, the fire chief for the Selah Fire Department.

Lange tells us one firefighter was also evaluated for a heat-related illness.

Pacific Power had reported that 14,000 customers in Yakima and Selah. Since then, power has been restored.

The cause of fire is still being investigated.
