      Critics Consensus

If this sendup of literary potboilers suffers from being as glacially paced as its own whopper of a title, at least Kristen Bell makes for delightfully deadpan company.

John Doyle Globe and Mail The cast is uniformly good, and Kristen Bell has, as universally acknowledged, excellent comic chops. The series rests on her shoulders and she plays Anna with gusto that's admirable. Feb 1, 2022 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com The best that can be said about "The Woman in the House" is that it is equal in heft and worth to your average women-in-peril cable movie. But if you expect more from Bell and everyone else in the cast, its shortcomings just kill it for us. Jan 31, 2022 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting This series is far more digestible than its mouthful of a title, and the absurd satire builds to a hilarious punchline. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 31, 2022 Full Review Shawn Edwards Fox 4 Kansas City Kristin Bell is perfect... but the character development and plot threads is a joke. It's also completely all unbelievable. Rated: 2/5 Oct 27, 2023 Full Review Stephanie Morgan Common Sense Media While a worthy experiment, this genre-bending show just isn't funny, or suspenseful, enough to keep viewers wanting to return for all eight episodes. Rated: 2/5 Mar 4, 2022 Full Review Shah Shahid Making Fetch Some aspects of the show are still eyebrow-raisingly suspect, like that absolutely bonkers ending that still has me screaming. But by the end, the journey is worth the watch. Mar 1, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Miranda B Poor writing in a series that couldn’t decide whether it was a comedy parody or a serious murder mystery. Kristen Bell did her best to deliver cheesy lines that ultimately fell flat when the tone of the show became too confused. With a plot that constantly leaves you feeling that there must be more and an ending that just leaves you unfulfilled and scratching your head in confusion, the time committed to watching is nothing more than a waste. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Garvis W silliest writing of all time Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Mary J I love that this series parodied the many tired cliches of the whole Neurotic Girl Noir genre, which has unfortunately proliferated. But sadly, it didn't hold my interest. It was slow and not particularly funny. Full disclosure: I didn't get past the first few episodes; possibly it picked up steam later in the series. Still I give the creators points for trying to make fun of a kind of movie that desperately cries out to be mocked. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Jordan K I actually enjoyed this series despite all of the harsh criticism. Really wish there was another season because I feel as though there's a lot of potential in the show itself. The cast is great and the story line is pretty decent. The comedy is also there, just wish it was less dramatized if anything. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Bryan G Just a horrible waste of time I wish I could get back. Soooooo bad. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Sandra V I liked the twists and turns and comedic parody of other stories. It was entertaining with exaggerated acting, writing, and music. It kinda reminded me of the comedic character of Ally McBeal a bit. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
