    Loudness and Stryper are contenders.

Junkyard - they were from the '80s Hollywood scene but had more of a Southern Rock sound.

Stryper definitely had their heavy moments. They loved a power ballad though!

I still have a big soft spot for Stryper, despite having no affinity with any religious shenanigans.

I don't know enough about Pantera's history. They played glam metal from at least circa 1983 to at least some point in the mid to late 80's. Did they ever completely stop playing their glam metal material?

    Early, pre-eighties - Sweet

Late 80's, if Glam metal was defined by attire, Cacophony were by far the heaviest Glam Metal band.

When they signed with a major label and released Cowboys from Hell, they stopped playing all of their prior material. The only exception may have been early on an occasional performance of the title track of their last independent album, Power Metal.

Motley Crue's Shout At The Devil album qualifies, but they went to a moderately more poppy sound afterward. Twisted Sister had some heavy albums early on. Guns N Roses emerged out of the L.A. glam scene, they would be my vote knowing that many don't consider them to be a hair/glam band.

A few too many joke replies in here.

I'd say early Crue or early WASP, both of which are straight up heavy metal in style. GnR is hard (very) but IMO not heavy. Skid Row's second one is a good contender too.

Saw a couple people reply with the Sweet and at least one T.Rex--they're glam rock, not glam/hair metal.

Always have felt it was a shame that there wasn't much glam metal that took after the early WASP/Crue/Ratt stuff. The whole genre leaned into hairspray and power ballads --I would've enjoyed a bit more shouting at the devil.

    Celtic Frost that one time

Skid Row circa Slave To The Grind? They were close friends with Pantera and it sorta sounds like it.

Maybe they invented heavy metal with "Helter Skelter", but they had already dropped the glam walrus and such costumes by then.

3 pages and no New York Dolls. They had the glam and they rocked hard

Absolutely not a glam metal band even if they were mildly influential on them (mostly the fashion).

I'm surprised no one has mention the New York Dolls.

Someone else answered already, but I'll add- they basically disowned their glam era material by the time Cowboys From Hell was released. It was out of print and not easy to find then either.
