      Critics Consensus

St. Vincent offers the considerable pleasure of seeing Bill Murray back in funny form, but drifts into dangerously sentimental territory along the way.

Dwight Brown National Newspaper Publishers Association Melfi, an astute director, sets a very eccentric and consistently endearing tone that is reminiscent of the quirky spirit of Silver Linings Playbook. Mar 21, 2017 Full Review Jason Bailey Flavorwire A lovely little movie with a lot of laughs and a good heart - and a warning signal for a direction Murray's career could take, if he's not careful. Jun 18, 2016 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It's a cliche, but cliches go on existing only because they go on being refreshed, and Bill Murray and friends bring this one back to life with deadpan flair and a vigilant eye for any disfiguring taint of sentimentality. Rated: 4/5 Jan 8, 2015 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It does offer a handful of intriguing characters whose lives draw us in for better or for worse. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 25, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review An endearing if sappy feel-gooder made pleasant by the affable presence of Bill Murray. Dave V This was a really good movie. Bill did a great job and the kid was fantastic. I really enjoyed this movie. The ups and downs and story was well done with a great twist on the ending. I enjoyed it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review gsm g I tried to watch the movie but ended up clicking forward many times Too sentimental to predictable. I stopped where I thought there may be something to watch my general impression is this movie though means well tries to hard and forces too much on the audience. A simpler script may have made for a great movie remove the bookie and the girl friend and just focus on the boy mom and murray leave out the priest too. Cheers Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Matej S One of my favorites for me. It's funny but can be sad too. ITS A MUST SEE! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/02/23 Full Review Cat K A good example of poor rhetoric in movie form. It hides self-contradictions beneath emotional music and silly sentimentality, a slight-of-hand attempt at hiding its flaws from the audience. It fails at this as well. Murray's accent is entertaining but his character is unsympathetic. Sainthood denied. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/10/23 Full Review A C Wonderful acting and casting! Such a sweet story. I really enjoyed this one! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/20/23 Full Review Alejandro E It's always nice to see actors who, over time, mature over time; as in this case, that of Bill Murray. Almost immediately his character catches our attention and sympathy, to leave a good taste in our mouths in the final act. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
