While the palace was rebuilt after the war, they clearly want to share a bit of Korean history with you. I'd take a tour though, as the outer buildings don't have a lot of information included.

The palaces were briliant, so much history behind them. The cost wasnt so bad either, we paid 9000 korean won for 4!

You can't go to Seoul without visiting this extraordinary palace. You also can't miss it, it's right in the middle of one of the busiest areas of the city, near City Hall and the US Embassy. Fascinating look at the ceremonial side of the Korean royal dynasty, the massive buildings are impressive and the smaller pavilions are beautiful, especially the ones sitting peacefully in the small lakes. And make sure you see the Changing of the Guard ceremony, great pageantry & very colorful. Also, don't miss the Folk Museum which is on the palace grounds (look for the very tall pagoda). Great place to start a visit to wonderful Seoul!

I went during the Korean national holiday and Chinese national holiday so lots of tourists there. The place covers a lot of acres and definitely has a few buildlings that offer fantastic photo spots. The changing of the guards is nice to watch and it's explained in English in addition to Korean and Mandarin. Admission prices in Seoul are generally a bargain compared to European and American sight admissions. If you have to pick one palace to visit in Seoul this would be the one. Deongsukgung would be the other as they also have a changing of the guards.

This is a former royal palace, most of which was destroyed during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Buildings have been restored and are a fascinating insight into times gone by.
