Problems with AOL Download - Microsoft Community

Problems with AOL Download

On yesterday, I was unable to use and/or download AOL Gold because of an issue with Microsoft software. I spoke with AOL, and they stated the error was with Microsoft blocking the download. The message referred to the assembly binding logging is turned OFF. It referred to a registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWord) to 1. It suggested to turn off the feature by removing the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog]. I don't know if there has been an update with Microsoft, but I have never been unable to download AOL. Please help.

Hi, SM490.

Welcome to Microsoft support community.

We noticed you are having problem with download AOL gold. And you have been told this might be the fault of Microsoft update.

We are sorry to bother, could you provide us more detail:

  • When you say you have problem during download process, what exactly did you mean; since you cannot be stuck at downloading some file normally. Are you facing the situation like when you update the application it got stuck at downloading the new version?

  • Did you see any error message?

For now, my suggestion is:

  • It is ok if you want to disable that key for a try, just remember to make a backup for your registry.

    • That key is for a log feature which should not affect how your system function. Just some performance penalty associated with enable assembly bind failure logging.

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems; however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.

Without your detail description we cannot offer to many solutions, keep us update so we could offer you better help. Looking forward about your reply.

Benjamin,

When I attempted to install AOL Gold Desktop it stated that the installation has failed. There was an error while installing the application. Check the set-up log for more information and contact the author. When I check the set-up log, it stated to turn the feature off by removing the registry value.

Greeting. Does your problem get solved?

Just like I was saying you would be ok with modify the entry to give a try. Do you not know how to do that?

<Generally>

1. Start menu > Registry Editor(open in admin mode)

2. Enter the path

"Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fusion" at top address bar".

The Fusion!EnableLog is little misleading, it actually mean the "EnableLog" value under the Fusion path.

3. Select File > Export , save the current path to file

4. Then you could delete the entry pretty safely.

If above does not solve your question, I must say you might be facing the trouble caused by the application itself since it does not work in neither way. By the way could you install the application earlier?

It is just a reference that it might be the .NET framework incompatibility caused by the application dependency maybe.

Let me know your thoughts.
