      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Desperado contains almost too much action and too little story to sustain interest, but Antonio Banderas proves a charismatic lead in Robert Rodriguez's inventive extravaganza.

Juan M. Mendez New York Daily News [A] satisfying banquet of pulp filmmaking. Rated: 3/4 Aug 18, 2021 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: B Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Rodriguez's second feature may be a rambling, derivative exercise in gratuitous violence, but its determination to proceed as if the word 'restraint' never existed makes for gleeful entertainment. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Todd James Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta) Rodriguez does a good job of mixing violence and humor... All the blood, though, can't masquerade the lack of a real story, and it's up to Banderas to turn on the charm -- and he does just that. Rated: 3/5 Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media So much of the humor and style comes from over-the-top exaggeration in the violence, characters, and conflicts. Rated: 4/5 Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn This is a fun watch but it really doesn't make much sense... Rated: 3/5 Oct 1, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Nico B Really good action flick. Some parts have aged a bit, but overall it' still highly entertaining. The action is kinda like a combination of John Woo's style and Sam Raimi's style. One of Rodriguez's best movies. The best of the el mariachi trilogy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review Aaron C I found out so surprising to discover that Tarantino did not make this one! Fantastic work from Robert R, a really fun watch! Yes it is far fetched, but that makes it fun to watch and very entertaining with a good storyline and plot twist to back it up. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Javi C It's a fun watch nothing to take too serious, but I definitely recommend. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Audience Member Fun movie.
