Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- DadandCabCoffs Harbour, Australia1,217 contributionsI could have spent much longer here and will certainly be back again when I get the chance. First of all, it’s a lovely building in itself. Secondly, there’s a very interesting mix of fine art, furnishings and sculptures including a fabulous display about Wedgewood, the man and his pottery. Thirdly, there’s a great café downstairs with a good range of meals from sandwiches to soups and stews at reasonable prices. I had a lovely bowl of scouse, perfect for a cold wet day. Lastly, the gallery surroundings are also lovely, perfect for a walk and there’s plenty of parking and rail nearby for access. Highly recommended.Written 30 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- lalaRJCoventry, UK84 contributionsTravelling with a U3A group in the Liverpool area we arrived at this nearly hidden treasure. Only the skill of out driver facilitated our arrival at The Priory. The exterior looked uninviting and we all wondered “why are we here?”. The priory has an uninspiring presentation and an amazing interior. Get off the coach and look around the back!Written 24 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kundukuWirral, UK335 contributionsWe visited the park on this occasion to view GAIA, which was excellent. It was quiet when we went and we had a great view all around and underneath the globe. There was only a small information board but enough detail to explain GAIA.
The Dan Jones soundtrack playing in the background was excellent too.
The setting, in the main entrance to the park is a really good "frame" for such exhibits, as withthe Knife Angel and with plenty of free parking and the rest of the park to explore, the venue is just ideal.
Luke Jerram's GAIA and his Moon, which we saw in Birkenhead Town Hall, are just brilliant to illustrate things we would ordinarily not see.
A great experience for all agesand credit to the council for bringing such a lovely exhibit to the Wirral.Written 1 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Cafe is a nice place, too, with plenty of options.
I thought they only did cakes, but they do have a pretty good menu and have lunch deals and offers.
Also, I love the sustainability of the buildings with the wild flower roof.Written 22 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is around a mile on foot from Birkenhead Central station.
There is a diverse range of exhibits relating to the town’s maritime past as well as some excellent Della Robbia pottery from the late 19th/early 20th century.
Some great old photographs from the shipyards as well as models of the boats are on show.
I liked also the portraits of legendary local footballer Dixie Dean.
Unfortunately much of the permanent art collection was not available to view, but
I did enjoy the Going to the Match display which showcased LS Lowry’s iconic painting.
Admission is free but the gallery is closed on Monday and Tuesday.Written 14 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We stayed in a friendly Premier Inn and found the area quiet.
Enjoyed the view across The Mersey.
Town Centre is reasonable with Primark and Asda. It also has a Vue Cinema.
Excellent transport, Hamilton Square Merseyrail station was clean and the trains were plentiful! Their website is very easy to use for the purchase of tickets although you can turn up and buy tickets at the door. On this occasion we went to see The Hollow (an Agatha Christie play) which was being played by the Woolgatherers of Heswall. The production was very good with great acting from all of them. At £10 for each ticket it was good value for money. The seats are fairly comfortable and you have a good view of the stage wherever you sit. The staff, who are usually volunteers, are very helpful and friendly. The theatre is upstairs but there are lifts available if needed .Behind the theatre is a large car park which is free after 1800. We visit a few times a year and always have a good experience.Written 7 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris SMiami Beach, FL887 contributionsThe staff are just great here and are always ready to help. Not a bad selection of books here either. The copys can get a tad pricey if you are copying and printing dozens at a time.Written 6 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kenneth528776Royal Wootton Bassett, UK4 contributionsA fine work of war art and a most moving monument to the fallen fellow pupils of my old school.
