NPTE Online Prep Course

Hello all,

Yesterday I received the news that I didn't pass my July NPTE. I am sad, but I'm ready to hit the road again running..

I have been looking at various online courses to help ensure that my second time will be a success - I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them/thoughts? So far I am between Final Exam and Final Frontier's 11 week online courses, or even their independent study bundles. A friend also suggested a 2 day in person Therapy Ed course.

Any feedback is appreciated - thank you guys so much!

I would buy a score report and then analyze why you failed. Test taking errors? Deficiency in a certain topic? Etc and then work on that. The in person courses will mainly work on test taking strategies. Can’t really review material well in a weekend

Thanks for your feedback! I agree - I feel that if I am going to spend money it should be on an in depth review course vs a 2 day (at least that is what direction I am heading in). I know they will provide a free feedback report - does the paid score report give any more details?

I am not sure on that. I know you can download the free one but idk how detailed it will be

I took the NPTE final frontier and it helped out a lot! They offer different tiers and the structured timetable and videos helped with my learning. In addition, they offered one extra practice exam and test taking strategies. I’d highly recommend! I agree with everyone else, get the performance report to get an idea of what you need to work on but still focus on studying everything else so you don’t forget anything. Sorry you failed :(. I had to take the exam twice so I know that feeling. Take some time to be sad and then get a game plan going.

thank you so much for sharing your experience and encouragement! Did you do the online course or the independent study bundle? Thanks again!

To your original question, everyone in my class that used NPTE Final Frontier said it was the best choice and also passed on their first try. One of my friends did nothing but use NPTE FF recommended readings and followed their program and scored above a 700 in April (tested while in his last rotation).

I personally did not use anything other than TherapyEd with the practice tests and the PEATs. In addition, I found podcasts where extremely helpful. Just search NPTE in apple podcasts and you'll find Studycast and Kyle Rice. Listen to them in your free time when you're driving to the store, gym, whatever.

Other than that, I found the test requires as much of test taking ability as it does general knowledge of the concepts. You'll find multiple concepts repeated throughout the practice tests. I found that as I went on after taking more and more practice tests, I was able to recognize what concept was being tested and that would help as I found myself dwelling less on "details" and more on the big picture the question stem was asking. Obviously this will NOT apply to everyone but it helped me immensely.

Finally...and my least favorite thing to say. It takes a bit of luck. There were undoubtedly multiple questions that had some material that was simply not covered in any of my books. However, guessing only becomes a factor as your score tends to come down to the 600 mark and a few questions are make or break. If you can solidify your foundational score, the guessing shouldn't even be a factor (other than to drive you insane after you walk out). PM me for any questions & concerns, I'd love to help if I can.

Edit: forgot to mention I took it last week (July 2019) and passed.

Hey, thank you so much for the insight! I really appreciate it. Thanks to everyone's response I think I will be getting Final Frontier's independent study bundle! I definitely agree with what you are saying about test taking ability, luck and general knowledge - if I am being completely honest with myself, I don't think I had the concepts solidified enough, which brought me to that "guessing" mark you're talking about. On my first attempt with studying, I also felt that doing the practice tests helped more than anything I was doing so I am also planning on buying another PEAT. Thank you again!!

Best of luck in your prep. Like I said before, please feel free to reach out with any questions/concerns. This October, make that exam your bitch.

I actually found that Therapy Exam Prep's test-taking strategies were better than either the PT Final or Final Frontier's in which I increased my results faster following their step by step exam process - after learning their strategy, I increased my practice exam by 20 points! And that was before actually studying, when I did study, I saw an increase by at least 10 each time!

I also found that their practice exams were much better than any others out there. Their score reports were much more detailed and broken down into various charts! I learned where to improve on much better as well as improved on my timing. I learned how to not guess anymore or change answers. I highly recommend to at least get their NPTE practice exams or join their course for learning and improving your scores.

Yes, I do recommend Therapy Exam Prep even if you are shaky or have major weak areas. They provide great insights towards the exam that truly follow the blueprint format. I've taken other courses including NPTE Final Frontier and honestly, it was too academically geared, who really wants to sit in lectures for 2.5 hours, and lacking in many areas especially test-taking concepts as well as just material copying from textbooks.

Therapy Exam Prep had the most strategies to provide in test-taking and really broke down the exam to be manageable. To gain the most points and be confident in the exam, Miye provides the best result and experience. I had a life when in the course compared to with others. Within a week, I gained 35 points after learning their powerful test-taking strategy.

Ignore this post, it’s most likely made by the owner. Therapy exam prep is a waste of money, with barely any content videos and webinars that have incorrect information. Definitely do not use them. My friend used them, and I got a taste of it. So stick with FF and you can even do LSP courses. It helps a lot.

I used the NPTE Final Frontier study bundle and found it very helpful!

u/Prettysoldier93 avatar

thanks for sharing!! Ive been hearing only good things so I am leaning towards final frontier!

I used that in combination with kyle rice’s podcast “NPTE CLINICAL FILES”. If you have an iphone, you can search it under the podcast app. If not you can find it online.

just subbed! thank you so much :)

I second this! Kyle Rice really helps with test taking strategies and mentality. Just using his free content my score went from high 120s/ low 130s to high 140s to low 150s. This was in addition to utilizing Scorebuilders and O’Sullivan books!

The NPTE Final Frontier is amazing. I did the stunts bundle package which provided recordings of the live courses, a study plan (which gives topics to study for the day, and gave a 250 question practice test. The practice test is great in that it has an 83% correlation with passing the NPTE, which is the second highest behind the PEAT. I highly recommend it. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

u/Prettysoldier93 avatar

thank you so much!! Out of curiosity - why did you decide to go with the study bundle vs the online course?

I went with the study bundle over the online course because to me the daily study plan was a good lay out for me and I didn't mind having recording lectures rather than live courses. I know the online course, you can ask questions to the instructor during the live classes, and you can have an individual "study partner" who is a licenses PT to help you with any questions you have. So really it is whatever works best for you!

thank you so much :)

another question I have - are there still "assignments" with the study bundle? or is that only with the live class?

Yes you can still do the assignments with the study bundle! Also, check out their facebook and you can check out some of their content and ask them any questions directly!
