Aadhar Card Online Update: Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued to Indian residents, which is essential for accessing government services and conducting financial transactions securely. By linking Aadhaar with biometrics, the system prevents duplication and helps detect fraudulent activities, making it crucial to update it to prevent misuse.
As per the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, individuals must update their proof of identity and address documents every ten years from their Aadhaar enrollment date, and the same applies to updating a child’s biometric details on their Blue Aadhaar card at ages 5 and 15.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar cards and uploading documents online to June 14, 2024, after the initial deadline of March 14, 2024, encouraging Aadhaar card holders to update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents, providing residents with more time to update their information at no cost.
As UIDAI offers a user-friendly online platform for individuals to update their Aadhaar information for free, here’s a step-by-step guide on updating their Aadhaar details online before the deadline of June 14.
1. Start by visiting the UIDAI official website: uidai.gov.in. and choose the preferred language.
2. Access the update feature: Click on the ‘My Aadhaar’ tab, then select ‘Update Your Aadhaar’ from the drop-down menu.
3. Proceed with the update. One will be redirected to the ‘Update Aadhaar Details (Online)’ page, where one should click on ‘Document Update’.
4. Authenticate yourself: Enter your UID number and the Captcha verification code, then click ‘Send OTP’ to receive a one-time password on your registered mobile number.
5. Log in after receiving the OTP, enter it and click Login.
6. Select and fill in the details: Choose the demographic details you wish to update and fill in the new information accurately.
7. Submit and upload documents: After making the necessary changes, click ‘Submit.’ Upload the required scanned documents to support your update request.
8. Finalise the update. Click ‘Submit Update Request’. Upon submission, you’ll receive an Update Request Number (URN) via SMS, which you can use to track the status of your request.
However, it’s important to note that biometric features like facial photographs, iris scans, or fingerprints require verification. One must confirm biometric information by visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
To update biometric details on your Aadhaar card, you need to follow these steps:
1. Visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre by finding on the Aadhaar locator website: bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in/aadhaar/
2. Provide your biometric information, including fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs.
3. Authenticate the update by following the instructions provided at the centre.
4. Submit any required supporting documents for verification.
5. Receive an acknowledgement receipt with a URN (Update Request Number) for tracking the status of your biometric update.
One can update their identity and address proof documents for free on the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2024, by uploading scanned copies of the original documents. Following that, the fee for online updates will be Rs 25 and for offline updates, Rs 50.
