The Royal Variety Performance has returned for the first time since the Queen’s death in September 2022.

The former monarch was the sole patron of the annual fundraising event, which started in 1912 and describes itself as “longest running entertainment show in the world.”

Funds raised from the show help those from the world of entertainment in need of care and assistance.

Who is hosting the 2022 Royal Variety Performance?

Award-winning comedian Lee Mack will host the show from the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Lee Mack, known for appearing on popular shows Not Going Out and Would I Lie To You, said “I was actually going to buy tickets for this year’s Royal Variety Performance, so not only is it a real honour to be asked to host it, it’s also saved me a few quid.

“I now just have to work out the logistics of introducing these brilliant acts and also rushing back to my seat to watch them.”

In honour of the Queen’s long association with the Royal Variety Performance, world-renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has prepared a special celebration alongside Gary Barlow, Gareth Malone and the London Youth Choir.

When is the Royal Variety Performance on TV?

The Royal Variety Performance is airing on ITV at 8pm on Tuesday 20 December.

It lasts 2 hours and 20 minutes, and will be available to stream from ITVX both live and after the event.

Where can I find ITVX?

ITVX can be accessed by anyone using a smart TV, laptop, phone, tablet or streaming device which has the ITVX app downloaded. The app can be found on the Apple and Android app stores.

You can get ITVX for free by signing up for an account, just as you would have done for the ITV Hub. To get this service, go to the ITV website, then click on the “Sign in” button at the top of the page, and then choose “Register now”. Fill in your details and choose your password and you’re all set to go.

If you want to sign up for it via an iOS or Android mobile device, go to the “My ITV” section of the app and tap “Sign in”.

You will then be given the option to “Register now”. Fill in your details, choose a password and you are ready to use the service.
