One of the great, but still very underrated female pop stars, Samantha Fox rose to fame in the early 1980s as a hugely successful Page 3 girl, though she maintains that her real love was always singing. She gave up her modelling career, and embarked on an equally fruitful journey as a pop singer in 1986. Her records would go onto sell big in countries all over the world. In fact, she became so popular elsewhere, that for her years she was rarely seen in the UK, because she had so much work aboard.
This nicely packaged, unofficial 'Best Of' album from 2000, only contains ten tracks, so it doesn't offer the best value for money (and really, you'd be better off buying
Greatest Hits
instead), but as a neat little snapshot of her career, it does the job.
Her best-selling debut single 'Touch Me (I Want Your Body)', is still her signature song, and as such, opens the album up. The other hits on here are 'Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)', 'I Wanna Have Some Fun', 'Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)', and 'I Surrender (To the Spirit of the Night)'. The album closes with her unsuccessful 1992 single 'Just One Night', and the remaining four tracks appeared on her studio albums only (and 'Your House or My House' is a pop gem). In terms of major 'hits', the only ones really missing are 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now', and her cover of Dusty Springfield's 'I Only Want to Be with You'.
If you like the sound of contemporary 1980s pop music from female stars who can really sing, then Sam Fox's material is completely typical of that decade, and such good fun. Complete with the cheesy synthesisers going around in the background, listeners should find it very easy to slide one of her CDs in alongside the decade's other girl singing sensations like Kim Wilde, Debbie Gibson, and Tiffany, and appreciate the magic of the loveable Sam, who was quite the versatile artist, and could really 'rock'.

Hot Tracks: The Best of Samantha Fox is forty-two minutes and two seconds and was released on March 7, 2000. I do admit that I own a couple of her albums. You know those big round things that you put on a stereo; if you remember what one is. I like this CD; but, I was not head over heals about it. There were only two songs that I liked: Touch Me (I Want Your Body) and I Surrender. Hot Tracks: The Best of Samantha Fox gets a B-.

This compilation is not as well thought out as her Greatest Hits one. But I like the dance theme here and how they selected overlooked songs from the albums. TOuch ME, Naughty Girls, I Wanna Have Some Fun, and Do Ya are still solid songs. Her willingness to be diverse with urban sounds and rock heavy songs worked for her. The cassette version has only 8 (!) songs--wished that BMG could have put 10 on it.

you were 17 and went cruising with your dudes? You were probably blasting old Metallica or Guns-n-Roses, smoking cheap cigarettes and passing around a bottle of Boone's Farm. Well there were other nights too. You were probably in the back seat of your girlfriend's car, parked in some dark hidden place. If you were lucky she had Samantha Fox on the tape deck. She'd be singing along to 'Touch Me' as you were copping a feel. Well those days are long gone, and that old girlfriend is somebody's wife now with a couple of kids. But the memories remain. Samantha Fox was queen of the hip-hop eighties. These teeny-bobber girl singers of today should take a lesson from Sam. She didn't write her own songs either, but her sexuality could be felt through the speakers. C'mon you know you couldn't walk down a record store ailse without looking at her album covers. She was great, she was the 80's. Oh I miss those days...............

I was aghast that the most popular song SF has ever made was offered on this compilation as a whittled-down version. Two bridges were cut out of the song! The bridges were the charming, quirky parts whereupon SF was "speaking"- once the bridges were edited out, what was left? The version on this album is a disappointing phantom of the original song, and there is absolutely nothing on the album jacket to indicate that the song has been edited.
Also, SF's cover version of "I Only Wanna Be with You" is inexplicably missing from this compilation.
That's it- butcher the most popular song and leave out one of the three major hits she's ever had (other than "I Wanna Have Some Fun"), and you've got this album.. whatever it is. Save your money.
