“The Amazing Race 35″ is just around the corner and will be bigger than ever. Here is what we know so far about the new season.
Is “The Amazing Race” returning for Season 35?
Yes, don’t worry. CBS formally renewed “The Amazing Race” for a 35th season on Feb. 21 for the 2023-24 season, but we already knew it was coming back. A casting call went out in June 2022 and the season was filmed in October and November 2022. But here’s where the twist comes in. That season, which was chronologically filmed as the 35th season, will not air as the Season 35. Instead, the 36th season that was filmed in June and July 2023 will air as Season 35. So basically, there are two seasons of “The Amazing Race” in the can, but the one that was filmed second will premiere first. This switch was made because the 2022 season was mostly edited when CBS expanded “The Amazing Race” to 90 minutes in May (see below).
When will “The Amazing Race 35” premiere?
“The Amazing Race 35” will premiere Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 9:30/8:30c. It will once again be paired with “Survivor,” but both shows will expand to 90-minute episodes. Yes, that’s 90-minute episodes all season long.
“We’re now able to show the footage that sometimes winds up on the cutting room floor,” executive producer Elise Doganieri told our sister site Variety of the 90-minute episodes. “Because we do interview the contestants while we’re racing. We also have our story producers that are out there on the road, running alongside the teams. And we also had extra local camera crews for locations and all that drone footage. We’ve been using a lot of drones lately to show these intimate aerials of different locations. So I think we’re going to let the story play out a little more, get to know the relationship with the contestants a little better.”

It will air on CBS as usual. Episodes will be available on Paramount+.

Season 35 will start in at the Hollywood sign with stops in Thailand, India, Germany, Sweden, Slovenia and Ireland. The finish line is in Washington state. The season will also resume the use of commercial flights instead of a chartered plane, which was implemented in the wake of COVID-19.
What are the twists on “The Amazing Race 35”?
Season 34 eliminated non-elimination legs and they will also be gone this season. But the Express Pass is back and there will be a twist on the U-Turn.
