Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Outbound: The flight was problematic from the start. It was supposed to be an A350 (with fully flat beds) and we were assigned seats in that aircraft at check in. But we realized only at the gate that our aircraft was changed at the last minute to an old A330, and with our seats rejigged. On top of that, there was an hour’s delay – strange for a morning flight. The seating is the outdated 2-2-2 recliners (which hardly reclined) but the cabin is quite well maintained and it was adequate for a short-haul day-time flight. On board, the crew were quite irritable from the start. Some managed to be “normal” and offered friendly service but unfortunately the one serving my area could not contain her appearance of being stressed. It was also a full flight. Food was so-so, though there was expensive abalone in the appetizer. Dynasty Lounge at Terminal 1 is way too small for the crazy morning crowd, and poorly equipped apart from the buffet. It was a free-for-all and one can hardly find a place to sit, much less be made comfortable to do any kind of urgent work. However, toward the late morning the lounge suddenly emptied as all the morning flights were departing. The lounge staff, nevertheless, were hardworking and efficient in clearing up after the crowds. Seating: 2/5 Cabin service: 2/5 Lounge: 2/5 In bound: It was a red-eye departing at 2.40 in the morning on an A321. Apart from the unearthly hour, the biggest problem was that the Dynasty Lounge was closed since 6 in the evening. Luckily, I managed to get into the Air France lounge, which is part of Skyteam, but that lounge closed shortly after midnight and I was left to use the obscene Miracle Lounge, used as a common lounge by all carriers without a lounge. This lounge is a horror – dirty, poorly equipped, with only basic seating and with only the lowest-quality Thai food. To top it off, the wine available was “Mont Claire” – this is an obscene brand and the lowest priced in the retail market in Thailand, and you would be well never to touch it. The new A321 with fully flat beds is adequate for a short-haul flight BUT this is at an unearthly hour when people want to sleep; as such the “beds” were too narrow and uncomfortable to get any serious sleep in, apart from the fact that someone is going to climb over you to get to the toilet at some point. Cabin crew were friendly and enthusiastic. Seating: 3/5 Cabin service: 4/5 Lounge: 0/5 Overall Onboard Food and Beverage: 4/5 Inflight entertainment: 3/5 Final thought: All airlines have different levels of service depending on how important the route is and whether the clientele is mainly business or leisure. This route is mainly leisure, therefore it is not of high importance.

My moko was booked to travel with me on 15/12/23 flying with another airline and return with China Airlines. He ended up in hospital so wasn't able to fly and I immediatly informed both airlines and provided a hospital letter as confirmation. The first airline offered to give a credit and initially so did China Airlines, however our circumstances changed and when I asked both airlines if I could get a refund instead due to hard-ship - both said NO! The first airline told me that the credit would be available until 2025 (despite travel in Dec. 24), however when I asked China Airlines 'Ari' informed me that "because I had booked (and paid for) the ticket in August 24' and despite travel NOT happening till Jan. 24 - I had until Aug.24 to use the credit"!? Not happy and has put me off flying FULL STOP!

I wanted to book a trip to see some longtime friends for my birthday. Being a longtime frequent flyer and regular business class traveler with Lufthansa, I was inclined to stay in the Star Alliance family— I know what I’m getting, can use my business class check-in, and my flight purchase will earn me miles. The partner there would have been Air China, with some legs needing a connection with another partner airline, and the price to travel with the star alliance partner (Air China) was actually much cheaper than traveling with Taiwan’s local airline, not to mention I had unused vouchers for another business class upgrade. I thought long and hard about the decision between convenience, comfort, and price on one hand versus supporting a local economy-building airline; and ultimately went again my own benefit to support Taiwan’s airline. I have to say, I have done nothing to regret it since: not only was the flight for just an economy ticket nearly double what it was for China Air, the website is practically useless. I’ve tried for days to look for a way to upgrade to business class. I have emailed and tried on their website to book the 30€ Rail&Fly tickets and ultimately bought my own DB tickets. I eventually joined their membership group to see if I could do anything from there, but I can’t even find the button or links for adding my own flight, even after hours of looking. It only seems to work on their app— so you can updates, but it doesn’t add your miles!! So you can request an upgrade!! Lastly, the website is not built for iPhone and constantly has issues resizing text blocks or additional information. I’m really sorry to say I had every good intention on this trip to support China Airlines, but they made sure at every step that I will remain loyal to the Star Alliance. If I could cancel and rebook even now, 4 days before my flight, I would… sad… hope they improve. But if they don’t, I hope others don’t make the same mistake I did.
