Established as a public STEM academy for Illinois students, the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is internationally recognized for inspiring, challenging, and nurturing students who use their exceptional abilities to improve people’s lives. IMSA’s academically advanced residential program enables exceptional students in grades 10-12 to reach extraordinary levels of achievement.

I am an IMSA parent. The curriculum is definitely really intensive. The problem is that a lot of times, the students are expected to learn it by themselves. It can be very overwhelming. Most teachers are great and talented. The administration really sucks. They do not listen to parents' suggestions and can seem to gas light students and parents. The food is terrible- poor options and makes children ill. My child had to rely on Door Dash. My child got given the wrong medication and the nurse did not seem to care and instead made my child feel like it was their fault, even though my child pointed out that the medication was wrong. There was also no follow up and medication error disclosure made to the primary care provider even though it was promised to the parent.

Review Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy

I absolutely love this school. It has opened so many doors in terms of college readiness and research opportunities. I have gained so many friends and mentors during my short time here. I have discovered underlying passions through the extracurriculars that IMSA offers. I have been challenged and pushed to my limits with the rigorous course work and busy day-to-day. I am very grateful for this school.

Attending this school was a great opportunity, but there are definitely some problems with the administration listening to student voices.
