Historically important, musical non-entities

Someone has to be first and well done for that but they will not be counted among the ranks of the great pioneers. Progress always needs trailblazers to inspire others to follow. If the initial bar is set too high, then there is often a gap before the next group feels they can match them. Set lower and people are quick to show they can do better and take up the challenge immediately so maybe their lack of talent did other female musicians a favour. The 3-star reviews have got it pretty much spot on - they are pedestrian and average. The first essential for a band is good vocals and they fall at the first hurdle. A famous football manager, sorry forget who, said you must love and caress the ball. Similarly a singer must have an intimate relationship with the microphone even when they are knocking decibels out of it. She is not helped by the backup vocals occasionally singing out of key. The drummer comes up with some cringeworthy frills. Perhaps thankfully, many frills are not noticeable from the guitars. Only seem to have had great success in Japan where their novelty and lack of competition or comparison would have served them well. To sum up - historically important musical non-entities

Researching female rockers and led backwards from Girlschool to Runaways. I remember Cherry Bomb as a hit single and listening to this it's obvious that the key creative force in both writing and performance was Joan Jett. The later tracks are best. By then she was singing her own songs as well as playing them. The live tracks suggest that they were probably best live. Interesting. And they could rock.
