Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a sequel to the 2021 reboot Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and the film will once again reunite the original Ghostbusters members with the new batch. The previous movie delved deep into the origins of the Spengler family and the ghost-hunting tradition left behind. It effectively paid tribute to Harold Ramis, known for playing Egon Spengler in the first movies of the franchise. He sadly passed away in 2014.

Picking up from where Ghostbusters: Afterlife left, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is setting up a wilder, more ambitious threat with Garraka, the new villain. 9 Mckenna Grace's Phoebe Spengler is a Sharp-Witted Prodigy

Phoebe Spengler, a bright, scientifically minded student, is played by Mckenna Grace. Hungry for knowledge, Phoebe digs up her family's past after an unforgettable encounter with a poltergeist. While she fits the typical awkward nerd stereotype, Phoebe's unique sense of humor and communicative personality are what bring all the characters together.

Grace isn't even 18 years old and already has an impressive filmography. After her onscreen debut in The Goodwin Games, the actress went on to play Jasmine Bernstein in Crash & Bernstein, Faith Newman in The Young and the Restless, Young Theo in The Haunting of the Hill House, and Penny Kirman in Designated Survivor. More recently, Grace joined Carey Mulligan and Phoebe Tonkin for the Podcast series The Foxes of Hydesville.

8 Finn Wolfhard is the Awkward Gearhead of the Group

Trevor Spengler, Phoebe's awkward brother, is played by Finn Wolfhard. At the beginning of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Trevor is visibly upset about moving to Summerville, but things take a new turn when he falls for carhop Lucky Domingo and begins to pursue his passion for working on old cars.

Wolfhard kicked off his career with minor roles in shows such as The 100 and Supernatural, but it was his role as Mike Wheeler in Netflix's hit show Stranger Things that led him to stardom. The young actor went on to play Richie in It, Candlewick in Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio, and Ziggy in When You Finish Saving the World. Parallel to his acting career, Wolfhard is also the frontman of the rock band Calpurnia.

7 Celeste O'Connor's Lucky Grounds the Team

Lucky Domingo, Trevor's love interest and co-worker, is played by Celeste O'Connor. She joins the group in the search for the Gozerian temple in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and ends up possessed by the demonic Zuul. After coming face to face with the supernatural, she signs up for the latest adventure, where her witty and unyielding personality will come in handy.

O'Connor made her onscreen debut in the thriller movie Wetlands and went on to star in Freaky, The In Between, and A Good Person. More recently, she joined the cast of Madame Web as Mattie Franklin, one of the three future Spider-Women hunted by Sims.

6 Logan Kim's Podcast is the New Stantz of the Group

Podcast, Phoebe's classmate and close friend, is played by Logan Kim. He's a paranormal enthusiast interested in conspiracy theories, which makes Phoebe and him immediately bond. The stories of the Ghostbusters are a source of inspiration for Podcast, and his goal is to become one of them.

One of the youngest members of the cast of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Kim is only 17 years old. The actor kicked off his career with a minor role in the Home Movie: The Princess Bride miniseries before his breakthrough role as Podcast. In The Walking Dead: Dead City, a spin-off series centered around the characters Negan and Maggie, Kim played Maggie's son Hershel Rhee. He also appeared in Kung Fu Panda 4, voicing an autograph-seeking fan.

5 Paul Rudd is at His Funniest as Gary Grooberson

Gary Grooberson, a seismologist who teaches at Summerville Middle School, is played by Paul Rudd. He comes to Summervile to study the city's mysterious earthquake occurrences and strikes up a friendship with Phoebe, his student. As a fan of the Ghostbusters, he joins his pupils on a quest to discover their origins.

Ghostbusters isn't the only blockbuster franchise Rudd stars in; he's also known for playing Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Scott Lang, the character behind the suit, earned a third movie alongside the Wasp in 2023: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Despite his growing success in the film industry, the actor is also a respected figure on TV, with shows such as Friends, Wet Hot American Summer, The Shrink Next Door, and Only Murders in the Building representing turning points in his career.

4 Carrie Coon is the Daughter of an Iconic Ghostbusters Member

Callie Spengler, the mother of Phoebe and Trevor, is played by Carrie Coon. She's the daughter of Egon Spengler, one of the original Ghostbusters. Her lack of financial stability led her to move into an old family house that harbored plenty of secrets. She starts off as a skeptical character who rejects the absurdities the field of science has to offer. Callie is now an integral part of the new Ghostbusters batch.

Coon is best known for playing Nora Durst in The Leftovers and Gloria Burgle in Fargo's third season: two Emmy-worthy performances. Other TV shows in her career include The Sinner, The Gilded Age, and she's reportedly joining the cast of The White Lotus in the show's upcoming season. On the big screen, the actress starred in movies such as Gone Girl, The Post, and Avengers: Infinity War.

3 Kumail Nanjiani Plays the Still Mysterious Nadeem Razmaadi

Kumail Nanjiani joins the cast of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire as Nadeem Razmaadi, a new character seen wearing Louis Tully's signature colander helmet in the trailer. He's yet another MCU star set to appear in the movie: the actor played Kingo, a genetically engineered cosmic hero sent to Earth in 5000 BC in Eternals.

Before becoming a superhero icon, Naniani was best known as a stand-up comedian whose early career was turned into the movie The Big Sick, which earned him an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Screenplay category. He went on to play Dinesh Chugtai in Silicon Valley, Haja Estree in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Somen Banerjee in Welcome to Chippendales before getting cast in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

2 Patton Oswalt Plays the Smart and Enthusiastic Dr. Hubert Wartzki

Dr. Hubert Wartzki, a new character joining the cast of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, is played by Patton Oswalt. His role is to warn the Spengler family of how their action could lead to the end of humanity, but there's much more to be disclosed about his character. Oswalt is a renowned comedian with special shows featured on Comedy Central and HBO.

The actor is one of the most active figures on TV today, appearing in shows such as The King of Queens, Veep, Happy!, Veronica Mars, The Goldbergs, and A.P. Bio. On the big screen, he starred in movies such as Magnolia, Sorry To Bother You, Eternals, and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

1 Will the Original Ghostbusters Return in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire?

Ghostbusters: Afterlife offered fans of the original movies a welcoming surprise with the return of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson and their respective characters, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore. They play a key role in defeating Gozer before returning to New York City, which happens to be where Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire takes place. In the sequel, the Spengler family and their allies will be taken to the original Ghostbusters' top-secret research lab, and they will likely be integral to the main conflict rather than just making another cameo appearance.

Aykroyd, who's also the executive producer of the new Ghostbusters movies, revealed he's interested in bringing the original cast members for at least three movies. In addition to the OG team, two returning characters from the original Ghostbusters will take part in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire: William Atherton's Walter Peck, a minor antagonist who tried to shut down the Ghostbusters in the past, and Annie Potts' Janine Melnitz, who will wear the iconic suit in the new sequel.
