Biography

  • The Jacksons are one of the most successful pop groups of the 20th century. Hailing from Gary, Indiana and formed in 1964, the band gave Michael Jackson his first taste of true stardom, and is currently made up of his brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon.

How exactly do you sum up one of the most successful careers in pop music history in a few paragraphs? It’s something I’ll have to learn pretty quickly cos in the Jacksons, I’m dealing with a group that’s iconic in the literal sense. They were one of the first African-American musical groups to have crossover success after The Supremes, The Four Tops and The Temptations and are still performing to this day. Clearly, I have a lot to cover.

The story begins in 1964, when Joe Jackson caught his son Tito breaking a string on the former’s guitar. Tito managed to fix the string and, before his father could punish him, played him some of what he’d been learning. His father was so impressed he bought Tito his own guitar to play on and with that; the first seeds of The Jackson Five were sewn.

Tito then started jamming with his brothers Jermaine and Jackie, who had shown an interest in singing as well, and six year old Michael started joining in on the congas. Their father named them The Jackson Brothers and they were soon playing live anywhere that’ll have them. In the following years the group cut their teeth playing dive bars and talent shows, and by 1967 they were signed to Steeltown Records after Motown rejected their demo tape.

After a couple more years of constant performing and rehearsing, the group finally got a true audition with Motown in the summer of 1968. By early 1969 they were signed and they were about to drop the mother of all debut singles. “I Want You Back” was an instant smash, a debut single reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the UK Singles chart.

This peak was equalled by their next three singles, making them the first act in pop music history to achieve such a feat. They were essentially the biggest pop act in the country within two years, releasing three studio albums in 1970 and a further two in 1971. Jacksonmania was in full swing and Michael was at the centre of it as the bands lead singer, even though he was barely twelve years old at the time.

Also in 1971, Motown started preparing a solo career for Michael. The rest, they say is history. While Michael became the biggest name in music, the band struggled on alongside him. He never officially left the band until 1984, when he’d already recorded the biggest selling album of all time with Thriller. With that, the jig was up. A final album, “2300 Jackson Street” was released in 1989 and tanked, so the group quietly split.

Until 2012, however. In the aftermath of Michael’s death, the remaining Jackson brothers reunited and went on the Unity Tour, and they’ve barely left the road since. When you’ve got a back catalogue like that it’s a crime to keep people from listening to it performed live. Over two decades since their formation and they still put on an amazing show.

  • The Jacksons

Well let me tell you guys something I have not met or see the Jackson's concert at all but I had been to Michael Jackson's concert for the very first time since I was only 4 years old. And I have'd told my mom that she had to tell me everything about Michael Jackson but I had no idea. And besides I didn't remember Michael Jackson at his concert because I was way to little to remember. But when I was 16 or 17 years old my mom told me everything about Michael Jackson since by that time I have never imagine how I met Michael Jackson. And anyway now since I'm 19 years old. And now I still miss Michael Jackson a lot since he was gone for a every long time. But it can be very sad that he was gone. When we had lost Michael Jackson from this man named Dr. Conrad Robert Murray who was the American criminal trial of Michael Jackson's personal physician,Dr. Conrad Murray, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter for the Michael Jackson's death on June 25, 2009,from a massive overdose of the general anesthetic propofol. And to be honest I will still love Michael Jackson no matter what even he is not here performing at his concerts or traveling and performing at the same time. But you know what Michael Jackson will always be in our hearts even it is to sad that he is gone and no longer performing and here with his fans all around the world. But the most important thing we can do for Michael Jackson's family is to honor him and his family and respecting them the way Michael Jackson did to us. And also remember the good times we had with Michael Jackson at his performance and everything we did with him at his concerts here in California in Los Angeles. And I know we all miss Michael Jackson. And lets honor to the most famous and entertainers from Gary, Indiana where Michael Jackson was born. That's all I can say to telling you everything about Michael Jackson so yeah that's all I can say for now. Thank you for you support and your blessings for Michael Jackson. May god gives your blessings to everyone and to the honor of the Jackson family members only. (R.I.P) to the legendary king of pop Michael J. Jackson.

    From Michael Jackson's fan!

  • You will struggle to find music as upbeat and jovial as that of the Jackson 5, now simply known as The Jacksons. The family band rose to huge prominence in the 70s and became a launch pad for the internationally acclaimed late, great Michael Jackson. Four of the brothers, Jermaine, Tito, Jackie and Marlon continue to tour their much loved discography to an adoring fanbase.

Nowadays The Jacksons inspire a sense of nostalgia within the crowds and although there are fewer dance routines, the quartet still know how to conduct a show and can build instant connections with the crowd. The enthusiasm for 'Blame It on the Boogie' and 'I Want You Back' visibly pleases the group onstage and they seem to be having as much fun as the crowd. They do slow the good times for a sincere cover of 'Gone Too Soon' dedicated to their brother Michael and this could leave most audience members dewy eyed. However after all they are here to celebrate the music and the legacy and by the finale of 'Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)' the whole audience is once again dancing along in good spirits.

  • Yes I really enjoyed the concert it was a joyful experienced and the Jackson sounded just as good as listening to it on the radio. I was impressed by the amount of fans that showed up and the diversity of not only different races but also by the fact that there were teenagers, young adults and seniors. I actually love to see when people of all ages enjoy such an amazing event. I loved the fact that they added some personal touches to it. I think Michael from up above is very proud of his brothers and the fact that they always include him. The Jacksons seem to me like a average everyday family with ups and down like any other family which makes them unique in my eyes. Marlon is a terrific dancer, Jermain could really sing and Tito does wonders on guitar. The whole group is wonderful. Great performance I could have not ask for more.

  • I love the Jacksons and enjoyed how their songs ran straight into one another however their voices sounded strained possibly because they were losing their own voice :-(
