Biography

Anne Gwynne was an actress who had a successful Hollywood career. Gwynne's earliest roles were in film, including "Charlie McCarthy, Detective" (1939), the horror feature "Black Friday" (1940) with Boris Karloff and "Spring Parade" (1940). She also appeared in the Buster Crabbe sci-fi feature "Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe" (1940), "Give Us Wings" (1940) with Billy Halop and the comedy adaptation "Nice Girl?" (1941) with Deanna Durbin. Her passion for acting continued to her roles in projects like the Basil Rathbone comedic adaptation "The Black Cat" (1941), the George Raft dramatic adaptation "Broadway" (1942) and the comedy "Ride 'Em Cowboy" (1942) with Bud Abbott. She also appeared in the Loretta Young drama "Ladies Courageous" (1944). Film continued to be her passion as she played roles in the crime picture "Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome" (1947) with Boris Karloff, "Panhandle" (1948) and "Blazing Sun" (1950) with Gene Autry. She also appeared in "Breakdown" (1952) and "Teenage Monster" (1957). Gwynne more recently worked on the Abe Vigoda fantastical comedy "Home of Angels" (1993). Gwynne passed away in March 2003 at the age of 85.
