Desert industrial post-apocalyptic horror. That's what I'm classifying this as. It is a very chilling oppressive album that has swells of “light-at-end-of-tunnel” beckoning the listener to keep going.
Put this as a horror game OST. Tapered off hard in the back half. Interesting listen. Gonna be hard to come back to this but I'm glad I listened.
Favorite track is Imperial Thorn.

Death Ambient is Kato Hideki (basses), Ikue Mori (laptop) and Fred Frith (guitar).
I don't know why this was so disappointing. Maybe it's because little of it is "ambient" in the sense of presenting sustained, enveloping sound. Instead, what you often get is anemic textures of cheerless noise that aren't really that seductive or confounding.
I liked a few tracks, though. It's OK I guess. I was much more impressed by Naked City's Absinthe and G.E. Stinson et. al.'s Cloud Plate.
