Summary

A two-time English amateur champion, Martin Gould has been an ever-present on the Main Tour since 2007.

The Pinner Potter didn’t demonstrate much of his potential in the early years but came to life near the beginning of the Barry Hearn era.

In 2010, Gould qualified for the World Championship and looked set for a place in the quarter-finals only to squander an 11-5 lead to eventual champion Neil Robertson in the last 16.

Still, a flamboyant potter, Gould built on his experience with a series of strong performances during the subsequent 2010/11 campaign.

Consistency in the new Players Tour Championship minor-ranking series helped him reach a first final at the Grand Finals in Dublin.

MORE PLAYER PROFILES:

Gould was easily beaten 4-0 by Shaun Murphy, but success did come not long after with victory in the second event of the 2012/13 PTC series.

These results helped him to rise into the top 16 of the world rankings for the first time in his career, reaching a career-high of number 11 in 2012.

A year later, invitational glory came in both the Snooker Shoot Out and the Championship League.

Gould was still searching for that elusive maiden crown in a full ranking event, and he was narrowly denied by John Higgins in a thrilling Australian Open title decider in 2015.

In the second half of that campaign, however, the Englishman produced some of his best snooker to reach the final of the German Masters.

In front of an enormous crowd at the Tempodrom in Berlin, Gould fulfilled his potential by beating Luca Brecel to secure a memorable triumph.

Since then, Gould has struggled with consistency and has produced only fleeting glimpses of his talent – reaching the 2020 European Masters final where he was beaten 9-8 by Mark Selby.
