US legend Pridmore back in EWC through Maco alliance
Jason Pridmore, the 2023 FIM Endurance World Championship title winner in 2003, will be back on EWC duty this week through an alliance with Slovakian squad Maco Racing.American legend Pridmore, 54, has signed up for the first running of the 8 Hours of Spa Motos aboard a Superstock category Yamaha entered under the JP 43 Racing by Maco banner. Fellow US racers Andrew Lee and Michael Gilbert will partner Pridmore on the #43 Dunlop-equipped entry, which will be managed by Maco’s Denisa Greškova.Maco’s partnership with Pridmore is in addition to its Formula EWC entry, which features a change of riders. With Croatian talent Martin Vugrinec still recovering from injuries sustained in crash practicing for the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans in April, Swede Christoffer Bergman has been added to the Maco attack alongside Bulgaria’s Martin Choy and Takeshi Ishizuka from Japan.Maco Racing owner Martin Kuzma said: “We are going to Belgium with the aim of fighting for the highest possible positions, in both classes, Formula EWC and Superstock. “Bergman has experience in the Supersport World Championship and we worked with him at the recent Alpe Adria Championship race in Rijeka. Both Ishizuka and Choy have already proven their qualities at Le Mans and they will make a strong team together with Bergman.“I am also very pleased to be working again with Jason Pridmore, with whom we have worked for many years and who was also part of our great successes. He was recently with Andrew and Michael at the Slovakia Ring to test and familiarise himself with our technique, and I am glad that we will be able to continue our former cooperation in Spa.“I salute Martin Vugrinec, the whole team wishes him a speedy recovery and return to the bike.”The 8 Hours of Spa Motos forms round two of the 2024 EWC season from 7-8 June. Kainz tips for Hanika to make more EWC history
Yamalube YART Yamaha EWC Official Team chief Mandy Kainz has tipped Karel Hanika to make more FIM Endurance World Championship history at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this week.Hanika, part of the YART line-up that claimed EWC title gold in 2023, holds the EWC race lap record around the 6.985-kilometre Belgian track. And Kainz expects more heroics from his Czech rider as he rebounds from crashing out of the lead of the EWC season-opening 24 Heures Motos in April.Kainz said: “When you make a mistake like this when you could win very easily this race for sure he loses confidence and this is one reason why I didn’t want to put him on the bike again, to protect him and also his shoulder, because he hurt his shoulder. But he will be 100 per cent back. He’s still the lap record holder at Spa and I would not be surprised that he breaks his own record again.”YART starts the inaugural 8 Hours of Spa Motos from 7-8 June second in the FIM Endurance World Championship for Teams, nine points behind first-placed Yoshimura SERT Motul. The Austria-based squad triumphed at the legendary track last year when the EWC event ran over a 24-hour duration.

EWC team TRT27 salutes Michael Dunlop following record-equalling Isle of Man TT win
TRT27 AZ Moto is saluting Michael Dunlop after he equalled his legendary uncle Joey’s record of 26 Isle of Man TT victories.Dunlop, who raced for TRT27 AZ Moto in the opening round of the FIM Endurance World Championship at Le Mans in April, registered his record-equalling success in the famous but hugely challenging road race with victory in yesterday’s first Supersport counter. And the Northern Irishman could have moved ahead of his uncle on the list of all-time Isle of Man TT winners with 27 victories had he not been forced to stop momentarily due to a safety helmet visor issue while he was leading race two with a comfortable margin.A Facebook post from TRT27 AZ Moto read: “That's right Michael Dunlop, you did it, congratulations, your whole family must be very proud of you up there. We know it's not over, and there are other possibilities. The whole TRT27 team is behind you all the way.”Honda-powered TRT27 AZ Moto will continue its FIM Endurance World Cup bid in the 8 Hours of Spa Motos from 7-8 June with riders Tom Oliver, Tom Ward and new recruit Alex Olsen. EWC riders said what? Eight stars look ahead to the 8 Hours of Spa Motos
Thirty-seven teams will go for glory in the 8 Hours of Spa Motos from 7-8 June. This is what some of the riders have said ahead of round two of the 2024 FIM Endurance World Championship.Gregg Black (France), Yoshimura SERT Motul: “It’s an eight-hour race which means you can push your body, mental strength and bike that bit harder, knowing you’re ‘only’ going to do two to three stints. We basically do our stints for fuel and, with such a long straight at Spa, they are shorter, around 50 minutes, as opposed to nearly an hour at Le Mans. We know the track. It’s one of nicest tracks in world. It’s an old type of circuit with the countryside, an undulating profile, and some blind, really fast corners such as the famous Raidillon. It’s always impressive to carry speed through that corner. It shows the difference between slower and faster riders.”Niccolò Canepa (Italy), Yamalube YART Yamaha EWC Official Team: “Winning at Spa last year was one of the best memories I’ve had with YART. To win our first 24-hour race after many years was really fantastic, especially on a mythical track like Spa. Our bike was very consistent and very easy to ride, especially in the infield part of the track. So when your bike is consistent you know exactly where to brake, exactly where to open the throttle. The lines are the same and that allows you to be consistent and fast.” Loris Cresson (Belgium, below), BMRT3D maxxess Nevers: “Every race we want to deliver the best result but when it’s at home and everybody is there you have an extra motivation because you want to make everybody proud and you also want it for yourself. When we were competing in the Superstock class before we had a big ambition to win the race but, unfortunately, we didn’t do it. In Formula EWC we are fighting with the big guys and if we are on the podium it means there are only two teams or one team better than us so it’s a big motivation if we can do this.”
