The Incredible Burt Wonderstone has to be one of the primary examples of a perfectly solid premise squandered on lack of imagination. It's been quite some time since I've seen such a dull, boring and unimaginative movie. Much of the humor falls flat as we, the viewers, hear metaphorical crickets accompanying the soundtrack. Yes, there are some laughs scattered throughout here and there, but they're so few and far between that it hardly makes this worth your time.
One of my biggest problems with the movie was the total waste of Jim Carrey's screen time. He literally has nothing to do aside from holding in his piss for days on end or drilling a fucking hole in his head. On…
Although "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" may ring as empty as a quarter-behind-the-ear trick, the comedy, built around dueling Las Vegas magicians, is an uptempo and consistently funny film. It offers little satire and smarts, but the gags are effective and the script is witty enough to keep smiles planted on its audience's face. The cast, highlighted by Steves Carell and Buscemi, Olivia Wilde, and Alan Arkin, is winning, selling the material with the expected comic chops. Overall, the experience is light-weight but satisfyingly fun.
Tends to be painfully unfunny for most of it's running time, which is made even worse by the fact of having the great cast almost completely wasted.
The characters seem like props for the script, which is basic at best. It's like they weren't even trying. I watched this based on a recommendation and I though this was a 90s film and a bad one at that. The performances are mediocre.
A few scenes are sort of funny. But not very smart. The main characters are sort of predatory. Steve Carrell is bad in this.
"I worshipped you for 10 years and you just made me hate you in 60 seconds." That was a good line. Only because Wonderstone was being a creep.
Gillian Jacobs gives a ridiculous over the top performance. And it's sort of ruined by Wonderstone being weird again.
Jim Carrey isn't very good. The soundtrack is overbearing and cringey.
When they were throwing the people in the back of the truck for the final trick I lost it
I find this movie hilarious. The scene at the end that shows how they pulled off the trick is nonstop laughter.
Despite the obvious comic talents of Buscemi, Carell and Carrey, the laughs don't exactly flow from the lips of these comedy greats. There are some excellent screwball moments, especially from Carrey, but it's a mixed bag all around.
Carell and Buscemi play two Vegas magicians going through the motions as a Casino's main entertainment attraction. With an outdated act and dwindling ticket sales, casino boss James Gandolfini wants something new and exciting to attract the punters. He challenges Burt & Anton (Carell & Buscemi) for something different. On the scene however stirring things up is street magician and "brain rapist" Steve Gray (Jim Carrey)giving a typically over the top performance. His avante garde style, in-your-face magic, featuring self harm and dangerous stunts…

Flopped on general release in the U.S originally, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a comedic take on the rise and fall of a Las Vegas magic act: the duo of Burt Wonderstone played by The Office's Steve Carrell, who successfully transitioned onto films such as Bruce Almighty, Little Miss Sunshine and Anchorman and Steve Buscemi, formerly of Reservoir Dogs and The Wedding Singer amongst other films as his partner, Anton, and an actor of whom has shown many times his versatility in a range of dramatic and comedic roles.
Albert is a young boy lives with his mother and he opens a magic set which contains an instructional video featuring the master magician, Rance Holloway. When Albert meets fellow boy,…
"ummmm for my next act I'm gonna disappear from the theater" is what I WOULD say if I saw this in theaters (I would just leave the theater)
