The title says it all!
With the typical Raven treatment, the remastering is superb and the track selection and liner notes are likewise. Missing are Whiter Shade of Pale, Into the Mystic, and Swayin' to the Music, but with 25 tracks, there really isn't any room to complain. (No doubt, that is why Rhino needed two discs when it released its Anthology a few years ago.) I have two other fairly comprehensive collections, but this is a MUST BUY for any Johnny Rivers fan!With the typical Raven treatment, the remastering is superb and the track selection and liner notes are likewise. Essential But Not Complete
The Essential Rivers is a very good compilation. The only song it lacks and thus keeps it from being perfect, is the absence of "Swayin' To The Music (Slow Dancin')" from 1977. But since this compilation is only inclusive up to 1975, that great song is not on this CD. Other than that omission, its a very good production.

AN INTRO TO JOHNNY RIVERS
For anybody that wants to get a good feel for Johnny Rivers I suggest you buy this CD, then get Johnny Live At The Whiskey-A-Go-Go and Johnny Rivers Rocks The Folk. You are listening to the man who bridged Chuck Berry into the 1960's all in Johnny's own style. Why Chuck commented that Johnny impressed him with Johnny's interpretation of Memphis. So, what more can I say? Elvis is gone and Johnny Rivers is still performing!For anybody that wants to get a good feel for Johnny Rivers I suggest you buy this CD, then get Johnny Live At The Whiskey-A-Go-Go and Johnny Rivers Rocks The Folk.
