2 day trip from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko to Hakone to Tokyo

2 day trip from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko to Hakone to Tokyo

Hi All,

I am a solo traveller, travelling mid-June to Japan and will be staying mostly in Tokyo.

However, the only time I leave the city would be right at the beginning of the trip where I travel first to Kawaguchiko (stay there for one night) and then to Hakone (stay there for one night).

I learnt of the Hakone Freepass only after booking my stay. It seems the pass only allows trains from Tokyo (Shinjuku to Odawara near Hakone).

1. Is this still an efficient pass to purchase?

2. Should I reverse the order of stay and explore Hakone first?

Well I'm really not sure if that travel will be worth when it is raining.

The rainy season might start by mid June.

Yes. I am aware this is a problem. Unfortunately I’m travelling around a conference and can’t do anything about it except hope to some amazing luck!!!!

1. Consider this Fuji Hakone pass, which may or may not payoff depending on your usage.

2. Does not matter. Fuji 5-lake and Hakone are about 60km apart.

You can get the Hakone Free Pass from Odawara. No need to get it from Shinjuku. ¥5,000 for validity of 2 days.

Check the bus timetables.

Kawaguchiko is the top one and Gotemba where you have to change buses for Hakone is the second from the bottom.

Hakone Free Pass has a digital version that you can buy online. Of course in your case, you just need the one from/to Odawara, not Shinjuku.
