not worth much
"Your Discretion Is Trust" is an album that i dont think is worth much - a pretty forgettable listen and it can get quite boring at times. i might relisten one more time to confirm my opinion but i have the feeling it wont change. :(Published

A few of the songs are great, but the majority are either spacey and weak, instrumental, or lack any real substance. I increased the score for the more cinematic-sounding instrumental tracks since some of the instrumental songs are unique and I appreciate them, which can make up for some of the other tracks with undeveloped ideas. In general, the first few tracks are great, but the rest is lackluster.5.9 / 10

Listen at your own discretion
I appreciate the experimentation, but many of the ideas here do not work. The soundscape is punky and distorted which leads to some interesting moments for sure, however, the majority is ultimately unlistenable especially after “Earth Signs.” Cities Aviv’s vocal performance on the album doesn’t help in this aspect either. It almost comes off as amateur at points, even more so than his debut “Digital Lows.” Awkward flows, boring lyrics, and mixing that feels like it was done in an hour all contribute to a less than desirable experience.
There’s not much here. It’s his worst album to date.

I do appreciate that Cities Aviv continues to experiment and I do think he is evolving as a producer. However, experiments must be done correctly. Come to Life was a coherent release. There was great interplay between the harsh vocals and the creative percussion and playful sampling, and the songs all seemed to flow together, yet were able to stand out on their own. What struck me most about this album was how comparatively boring a lot of the production on Your Discretion Is Trust (what does that even mean) is. I appreciate ambience, noise, and texture. What I cannot stand is the absolutely stale, repetitive guest production that Cities Aviv mostly lets stand on its own, mostly without vocals. The interludes were entirely unnecessary. Even the good moments, like the bass swells on the end of Anticipation, were too few and far between. I get going for a much more subtle release after the dynamism of Come to Life, however this goes too far. This is not a terrible release, it just is a step back.
