Top 50 Maren Morris Songs of All Time

Maren Morris is predominantly known as a Country singer, but she doesn’t limit herself to just that genre. She also likes to include flavors of R&B and Pop and even some Electronica in her music. She has released six albums, although only three of those were with a major label. Therefore, to look at her work and choose the Top 10 Maren Morris songs, we are limited to just three albums and eleven singles.

Maren was born in Texas and started singing locally at first but then moved to Nashville to try and make her name. She applied to all of those hideous TV talent shows but was rejected by all of them. Lucky for her, she didn’t need them. During her brief career thus far, she has also collaborated with other artists. It is with one of those collaborations we will start.

Top 50 Maren Morris Songs

1
Seeing Blind (with Niall Horan)

Niall Horan was a member of the group ‘One Direction.’ In 2016, after the group effectively ceased working, he took on different projects. One of those was his collaboration with Maren Morris on his album, Flicker.

While Maren is a songwriter as well as a singer, she is not averse to singing other people’s songs. One such cover she sang quite well was Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s song, “Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters.”

“Seeing Blind” is a simple Pop song that they sing quite well together. The song was released as a single in 2018 and made it to #68 on the Irish chart.

2
I Could Use a Love Song

Maren recorded her first album as a personal project in 2005 at the age of 15. Eleven years later came her first album with a major label called Hero.

“I Could Use a Love Song” is a track from that album, and both did rather well. The album reached #5 on the American album chart and even made #65 in the UK, which is not a hot spot for American Country Music. The single #56 in America.

It was written by Maren and Jimmy Robbins and is not a traditional Country sound. But, the basis of it is all there. It’s a song about someone not giving up and one day finding love. Not one of the best-known Maren Morris songs, but worth its place here.

3
Once

Another song from the 2016 album Hero, however, this track wasn’t released as a single. This song moves her away from her Country image and has a very bluesy feel.

Evidently, it was written after a chance meeting with the mother of the man she had broken up with the week before. It does demonstrate that she has a decent range and can create some emotion in her voice.

4
80s Mercedes

Another track from Hero, this song was released as a single in 2016 and reached #74 on the American chart. Again, a slightly different move away from a Country song, this is more of a Pop-Rock production.

A song that was produced to be commercial, and when you start including a car as a theme, that is going to help. She co-wrote the song with her producer Busbee.

5
Girl

This is a song that was taken from the follow-up album to Hero, the 2019 release, Girl. It also has a Country-Rock feel to it, and this time the guitars play a more prominent part. The single reached #44 on the American chart.

Most songs have a story or meaning you can associate with, but this one doesn’t. It is just a series of statements of encouragement. Disappointing that she feels the need to use bad language in the opening line. It goes along with the feeling that it is how you sell records these days. It isn’t clever, and it isn’t necessary.

6
Rich

Maren does seem to like one-word titles for her songs, and here is another one. “Rich” is taken from the 2019 Hero album, and it reached #62 on the American chart.

A decent song about the problems of forming a relationship with someone you just know isn’t right for you. Another song where she feels the need to swear in the lyrics to try and emphasize a point. Yawn. Nevertheless, it ranks among the Top 10 Maren Morris songs.

7
Just Another Thing

Staying with Hero, this is a song that has an early R&B feel to parts of it. Another song that is more Pop than anything else. As her recordings progressed, she seems to have moved away from being considered a Country Music artist.

This is a song with a decent hook and an understated guitar break and ranks among the best Maren Morris songs. She co-wrote it with Shane McAnally and Matt Dragstrem.

8
The Middle

Another music collaboration now, this time with Zedd and Grey from 2018. Zedd and Grey, real names Kyle and Michael Trewartha, are brothers who specialize in Electronic Music. I suppose you could say this isn’t going to be a Country song, more the antitheses of Nashville, I would’ve thought.

It is a song that is “produced,” as all Electronic tracks are, of course. The brothers also produced the track, and they have done quite a good job. They haven’t overdone the “box of tricks” that some Electronic Music producers employ far too much.

This has allowed her voice to be at the front of the mix. No bad thing because we can hear she gives a more than acceptable vocal performance. It reached #5 on the American chart and #6 in Canada, making it one of the most successful Maren Morris songs.

9
My Church

Another track from the 2016 album Hero, which was also her first single. “My Church” was the track that brought her some attention, reaching #50 on the American chart and #64 in Canada.

It is a song that compares a road trip to her church. It’s full of religious-life imagery as she finds songs to listen to on her car radio. Much more of a Country-style song that uses topics that were going to make it successful.

10
The Bones

The final choice comes from the album Girl, released in 2019. It uses a well-worn musical theme of how a relationship is better when the foundations are strong. It reached #12 on the American chart.

Morris co-wrote it with Laura Veltz and Jimmy Robbins. It was produced by Greg Kurstin, who played just about every instrument on the track. That includes what is probably the highlight of the song, the acoustic guitar.

Not really a country song, instead, it sounds like something Tracy Chapman might have written and recorded. That said, in my view, it is one of her best and one of the most popular Maren Morris songs.

Top 50 Maren Morris Songs – Final Thoughts

I am struggling to see why she is labeled a Country singer. Apart from the first two tracks she recorded, her music has very little to do with Nashville. And she does like to vary her style quite a bit.

Does that matter? I don’t think so. If people like what she does, that is all that matters. I didn’t include anything from her third solo album Humble Quest, but I suggest you give it a listen. You may find a track or two that you’d include in Maren Morris’ Top 10 songs. If you do, let us know in the comments.

Until next time, happy listening.
