Culled from her Blue Note recordings, these 18 cuts feature many of her disco sides, which are not to be confused with Tom Moulton master mixes. One wonders what Blue Note's hierarchy had in mind; the sides are totally foreign from their usual output. The ballads are the most satisfying, especially "Yu-Ma/Go Away Little Boy," where she admonishes her man before dismissing him from her life. It's the only thing close to golden, though "I Think I'll Tell Him" is pleasing; ballads are her forte, and she should have done more. To say Marlena's stint at Blue Note Records didn't live up to expectations is an understatement. ~ Andrew Hamilton
