It's a beautiful bout of heartbreak via Twigs' honeyed vox and slithering synths. It's a display of sublime balladry.
That her entire second EP has such a distinctive, cohesive sound that’s considerably more than the sum of its fascinating parts suggests the attention FKA twigs ought to be paid from here on out.
The level of detail is immense, but never too fussy. Still, the sense of space from EP1 is largely gone-- even in its sparsest moments this is a work that bears down on you, barely allowing any room to breathe.
EP2 is a refreshing and remarkably concise collaborative effort, showing that, given the right push, FKA twigs is more than capable of crafting an environment that is stimulating on both aesthetic and intellectual levels.
Barnett still only has a handful of songs to her name, yet the way she brings together vast spaces and dense sounds, as well as love and pain, makes it a stunning body of work.
FKA Twigs has crafted a distinguished and distinguishable sound, and a keen ear for how her plaintive, yet powerful voice works in the spaces of her productions.
The progression between ‘EP1 ‘and this release is arguably the role of Arca, whose abstractions create a perfect foil for Twigs to showcase the maturity and confidence in songwriting.
