Rayla is one of the three main protagonists (alongside Callum and Ezran) of the 2018 animated Netflix fantasy series, The Dragon Prince.
She is a 18-year-old moonshadow elf who was trained as an assassin, sent with a group to assassinate King Harrow of Katolis and his son Ezran. She then decides to join Callum and Ezran to return the Dragon Prince back to his mother. During the Battle of the Storm Spire, she earned the title of the "Last Dragon Guard", which she still carries.
Rayla would spend two years going after Viren to get revenge on him, and by the time she met Callum again, their relationship had become more distant and Rayla also got a pet cuddlemonkey named Stella. Rayla then decided to help Team Zym in stopping Aaravos. During the trip, Rayla and Callum mend their relationship.
She is voiced by Paula Burrows, who voiced Opeli and Annika in the same show.

Rayla, par for the course for a moonshadow elf, is trained to show no emotion. Despite her training, she is prone to outbursts, and it's not hard for her friends to get her to talk about her emotions. She also has a strong sense of honor and justice, viewing her mission to return the Dragon egg as a quest of redemption.
She is more compassionate then her fellow elves, finding it hard to kill someone in cold blood. Because of this, she has trouble balancing her responsibilities as an assassin, and her natural compassion. This often puts her on edge with her commander.
She has a sense of humor, mostly manifesting in sarcasm. Rayla also has an obsession towards getting Viren and get revenge on him putting her parents and Runaan's souls in coins, as she spent two years after him. Rayla leaving to go after Viren caused her relationship with Callum to become more distant, although they still loved each other. It's possible that Rayla has become a bit cynical as she told Soren that he can't save everyone but its unknown why she responded to him this way.
Rayla was revealed to have guilt for leaving her friends to go after Viren, and was tormented by the memories of Callum during her time searching for Viren. Rayla is also shown to be disgusted by Finnegrin having his champeon Deadwood beat up a Sunfire elf who challanged him rather than facing the elf himself, calling him a coward. Despite the deepening rift between her and Callum, Rayla shows she still loves him and is later able to restore their romantic relationship to the point that Callum has blindly trusted Rayla ever since.
Appearance[]
Rayla is a thin elf with white long shoulder-length hair, light pink skin, and violet eyes. On her eyes, she has purple markings that is common among her people, long ears, and horns. From season 1-3, Rayla wears a green and bluish bodysuit that consist of high-knee boots and a belt around the torso. During the events of season 4, Rayla's hair tied back and wears a complete different set of attire. Her new outfit consist of a short sleeved purple shirt with a turtleneck, a cloak. She also has a new set of bracers and have brown boots. Rayla has several belts around her body.

- Enhancement - During full moons, Moonshadow Elves like Rayla gain heightened speed, agility and strength, and become almost invisible.
Abilities[]
- Assassin training - Rayla is trained as an assassin, and has a high level of stamina, agility and strength, as well as proficiency with weapons. Runaan called her the fastest and strongest assassin available.
- Sword skill - Rayla is highly skilled with her weapon of choice, a pair of foldable swords that can be folded into hooks.
- Tracking Skill - Rayla learned this from Corvus, a human tracker. She and Callum later use this skill to track down Nyx, a roguish winged Skywing Elf, who dragonnapped Zym, the Dragon Prince.
- Intelligence - Rayla is smart and strategic Moonshadow elf. She manage to push Viren to his first defeat and death thus saving Zym. She also uses deception to lure the blind Archdragon of the Sun, Sol Regem by wearing Callum’s smelly scarf to draw Sol away while Callum gets Zym to safety.

Trivia[]
- Rayla is the first elf to get through Aaravos’s defense, while the complicated villain was distracted, thus allowing her to kill Viren.
- Rayla is made a “ghost” or otherwise magically banished just like her parents.
- Though as she now has the coins Runaan and her parents are imprisoned in, Rayla will have her banishment recended once Runaan is released and explains everything. But at the moment, it's unknown how she will free them and if her people can undo Viren's spell.
- Rayla is similar to Princess Yue from Avatar the Last Airbender; first they are affiliated with the moon, second they are the love interest of the male voice actor who plays Sokka and Callum, third, they lost their mother, but unlike Yue’s mom who is missing, Rayla’s mom and dad are currently coins in Viren’s collection of Moonshadow elves, and fourth and final point is that they were willing to die to save an someone’s life but unlike Sokka, Callum rescues Rayla.
- Contrary to younger viewers beliefs (due to not understanding complex concepts), Rayla would technically not be marrying into the Katolis royal family if she chose to have a ceremony with Callum.
- Callum is not of royal blood, but could become the next king if anything happened to Ezran; only orphans are allowed to start a new royal line.
- "Rebirthday" is the only episode where Rayla makes no physical appearance. In "Fallen Stars", Rayla only appears at the end of the episode, making her shortest appearance.
- Rayla was initially aquaphobic and sometimes suffered from seasickness on a boat. After her two years alone, she no longer showed any discomfort being on the water. During "Infantis Sanguine" she succeeded in overcoming her phobia once and for all.
- She originally had a braid that she wore behind her right ear until she got it cut off by an arrow in "Bloodthirsty".
