TOLEDO, Ohio — The WTOL 11 Weather Team has issued an ALERT DAY for Tuesday night ahead of a severe storm threat for our area. Here's what you need to know about the possibility of severe weather.
Storms arrive late Tuesday evening
Following a record setting afternoon, storms will start to develop after sunset from the west and roll in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. With storms mostly happening after dark, make sure to be weather ready by keeping your phone charged, along with a flashlight, and shoes nearby in case of a tornado. Environmental conditions will support the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms.
Strong to severe storms possible
The unusually warm weather will play a main factor in the development of storms. With temperatures likely to reach over 70 degrees on Tuesday, the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible. The main threats include heavy rainfall, strong winds and a few brief tornadoes that will be possible for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. With the cool air aloft, the atmosphere will allow the chance for decent-sized hail to fall. This can lead to damaging hail across northwest Ohio. The chance for a brief spin-up tornado will be possible as well during the night hours of Tuesday, but as of right now, it is on the lower end of threats.
Drastic temperature drop follows the cold front
A significant temperature drop is expected as a cold front sweeps through the area early Wednesday morning. The feels like temperature may drop as much as 60 degrees between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. The high temperature Wednesday will likely be reached close to midnight will falling temperatures through lunchtime.
