Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- BarrowlandWest Midlands, UK191 contributionsProbably the cleanest beach on the South Coast. Plenty of eateries and bars. Plus things nearby to keep you entertained, like the zip wire. Sand seems to get raked over every night. The Council are always working on things during the winter to keep the place nice (and functional). Lots of beach huts if that's your thing. Limited parking if you want to be central (e.g. close to Bournemouth Pier).Written 1 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lola P2 contributionsPuts you back in time …. Just lovely visit with the grandkids who enjoyed it a lot. Went for a quick scone in the cafe after our walk round soaking in the history and it was lovely with a lovely cup of coffee.Written 10 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - planegirl100Hampshire, UK510 contributionsWe last visited the head many years ago. Took the opportunity while on the way to our holiday to stop here. Parked easily in the car park by the cafe, 2hrs £5.50 via Ringo Go.
Walked the long way up to the top via Mudeford Beach. The steps are quite steep but the views are amazing!
The visitor centre is interesting and where you will find the toiletsWritten 31 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The layout was easy to follow and there was plenty of education information about each animal. I particularly enjoyed seeing the Humboldt Penguins and the Inca Terns who had such fun personalities - I could have watched them all day!
My only slight disappointment was in the gift shop. There is a good range of items for children, and there’s a penny press, but there wasn’t much to choose from in terms of Oceanarium branded items. I’d hoped to buy an eraser and a keyring, but settled on a magnet as there wasn’t much else besides pens and notebooks. Pin badges, postcards, and a souvenir guide book would also be a nice option to have. Overall, well worth a visit.Written 21 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. All praise to the council for the effort they have made with the Christmas Tree Trail through these gardens. The lights and trees are beautiful. There is also an outdoor ice rink and we thoroughly enjoyed our walk through the gardens.Written 9 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rachel R20 contributionsFrom the lovely chine and gardens, the gently shelving well kept sands, decent toilet facilities, Vesuvio restaurant l, playpark and little land train, Alum Chine beach is the best located beach in Bournemouth. Well worth the walk from the madness of the town centre.Written 16 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alison JGuildford, UK4 contributionsLove this beach 😀
It’s so much quieter than the main bournemouth beach and just such a nice relaxing beach.
There is also usually a nice breeze so that you never feel too hot
Great to walk along or chill out onWritten 28 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I don't always know the exact number of guests until the night and they are always flexible and able to fit us in.
Highly recommended. I did a review 5 days ago and mistakenly gave them 1 star, it should of course have been 5.My mistake for which I apologiseWritten 19 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Sound acoustics were really good, comfortable seats and a good view of the stage. First time going here and would definitely go back there for another gig.Written 7 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - louiseholisticPenarth, UK1,395 contributionsWe called in here after walking around Hengistbury Head and Mudeford Strand. We received a warm welcome from both gentlemen working there, who told us about the current art exhibition upstairs - Swim Wild And Free by Lydia Evans - the permanent archaeological exhibition and that there were 3 baby owls to observe on the live camera. The gift shop was well stocked with quality goods.
We really enjoyed our visit, especially as both gentlemen were very engaging. I took a photograph of the latest poem written on the chalkboard in the gift shop, and the one chap told us about the guided walks that he leads from the centre where he quotes nature poems. He’s now committed over 40 poems to memory, and delighted us in quoting Gerard Manley Hopkins and discussing the super tramp WH Davies with me. They were both delightful, enthusiastic members of staff and made our visit a real treat. If only I lived nearer - I’d love to join in the guided walks. The baby owls were asleep as it was daytime, but I looked online later after dark and was thrilled to see them in their nest. Thank you both for making our visit such a pleasant one.Written 20 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
