Mo'Nique says if she were a white woman her name would be Melissa McCarthy: 'Opportunities are not the same'

"Same track record."

Mo'Nique is not done calling out Hollywood.

The 56-year-old Oscar winner has lambasted the lack of equal opportunities in show business, saying she should have the same career trajectory as her white counterparts.

"If I was a white woman, do you know what my name would be? Melissa McCarthy,” Mo’Nique said during an expansive interview on Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast this week. “If I was a white woman, my name would be Melissa McCarthy. Same track record. Five-year sitcom in syndication. The opportunities are not the same.”

Black women and the community in general "get judged by a different stick," she added. Her comments came in response to Sharpe's observation that she should have the same commercial success as the likes of Dave Chappelle and other stars who've broken out from the stand-up scene.

Before her Oscar-winning turn in 2009's Precious, Mo'Nique appeared in the sitcoms Moesha, The Hughleys, and, most notably, The Parkers. Her credits since then include the movies Phat Girlz, Soul Plane, Bessie, Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins, and Almost Christmas.

Mo'Nique has long accused Hollywood of blackballing her after she declined to participate in the awards season campaign for Precious, leading to a decades-long feud with the film's director, Lee Daniels, as well as Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.

She continued to condemn Winfrey and Perry in her conversation with Sharpe, touching on how her relationship with Winfrey became more strained after she welcomed her estranged family — including her eldest brother, who admitted to molesting her as a child — to her talk show in 2010. She said she felt like Winfrey "betrayed" her.
