Richard Woodrow Pope, 79, of New Paris, OH, passed away early Thursday morning July 20, 2017 following an extended illness. Born March 22, 1938, he was a son of the late Robert W. And Betty Jean (Holiday) Pope. He was a 1957 graduate of Webster High School in Webster, IN and had proudly served with the US Navy as a Radio Operator at the US Naval Communication Station in Washington. He later served as a member of the National Guard for several years and was a member of the American Legion Post # 215 of Eaton. Richard retired after 38 years from Westvaco Corporation in Eaton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, going out to eat with the guys at Bob Evans, vacations, and going to the fair.

Survived by his beloved companion of 17 years Dawn R. Petty of New Paris; sister Rozi Marsiglio of Richmond, IN; son Tony Pope; grandsons Justin, Nathan and Ethan Pope; nephews Joe Reichter and Todd Marton both of Florida, numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Friends may call on the family from 12:00 - 2:00 PM Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Steve Whalen presiding. Burial with Military Honors at Preble Memory Gardens.
