Summary

  • Park Seo-joon & Kim Ji-won's careers have only evolved since Fight For My Way in 2017.
  • Fight For My Way continues to resonate with relatable themes after seven years.
  • Both actors' recent successful roles, like in Gyeongseong Creature and Queen of Tears, showcase their growth. The same applies to Ahn Jae-hong and Song Ha-yoon.

Gyeongseong Creature’s Park Seo-joon and Queen of Tears’ Kim Ji-won once starred together in a slice-of-life K-drama that has become even better seven years later. There have been some great K-dramas in 2024, from web series like Gyeongseong Creature and Chicken Nugget to broadcast shows like Marry My Husband and Queen of Tears. Interestingly, some of the K-drama highlights of 2024 featured actors who were in Fight For My Way, a show whose cast has only become more famous since it originally aired. Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won are major examples of it.

Shortly after Fight For My Way, Park Seo-joon starred in What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim alongside Park Min-young. Considered one of the best K-dramas of all time, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim was not Park Seo-joon’s only critically acclaimed hit, as the actor would also star in Itaewon Class. Likewise, Fight For My Way was the beginning of a strong streak of K-drama characters played by Kim Ji-won, whose career has led her to the lead role in the massively successful Queen of Tears.

The careers of Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won have only evolved since Fight For My Way, a 16-episode slice-of-life K-drama from 2017. Fight For My Way told the story of four friends who had known each other since high school. Despite having a lot of dreams and potential during their high school days, none of the “Crazy Fantastic Four” grew up to become the person they wanted to be. For example, Park Seo-joon’s character wanted to pursue a career in taekwondo. However, despite being one of the prodigies of his generation, Dong-man never became a professional.

Likewise, Ae-ra, Kim Ji-won’s character, dreamed of being a newsroom anchor. She always liked to use a microphone and even pretended to be a TV anchor when watching Dong-man’s fights. Still, several years after high school, Ae-ra was nowhere near becoming a famous journalist. Instead, she was working on a job that did not make her happy and was part of an awful relationship. To make things worse, Ae-ra finds out that her boyfriend, whom she still had hoped would become a lawyer, was cheating on her. Ae-ra and the other "Crazy Fantastic Four" were all struggling.

How Fight For My Way Compare To Park Seo-joon & Kim Ji-won’s 2024 K-Dramas

Fight For My Way is about friendship, love, and second chances

Fight For My Way may be very different from Park Seo-joon’s Gyeongseong Creature and Kim Ji-won’s Queen of Tears, but there are some interesting similarities between the 2017 K-drama and its stars’ most recent roles. Even though Gyeongseong Creature is a horror show, Park Seo-joon’s Tae-sang has some comedic moments that help lighten the mood during bleak scenes. Park Seo-joon’s talent for comedy was first highlighted in Fight For My Way, whose most hilarious moment usually came from Dong-man. Park continued to play funny, lighthearted characters after Fight For My Way, including Young-joon from What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.

Kim Ji-won’s character in Queen of Tears is a strong, determined woman who knows what her goals are. This is relatively similar to Hyun-woo’s personality in Queen of Tears, during which Kim Ji-won’s character has to continue facing professional and personal challenges despite having been diagnosed with a terminal disease. Fight For My Way’s Ae-ra is younger and nowhere near as rich and successful as Queen of Tears’ Hyun-woo, but Kim Ji-won gives equally strong performances in both shows. The actress managed to make both of these characters vulnerable despite their tough attitude.

Fight For My Way was well received when it came out, but revisiting the show seven years later makes it even better considering all the other great K-dramas Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won have been since then, including in 2024. Park Seo-joon recently starred as Tae-sang in Gyeongseong Creature for Netflix, a role he is set to reprise in the upcoming season 2. Kim Ji-won’s Queen of Tears, arguably the best K-drama of 2024 so far, concluded its 16-episode run with a record-breaking finale and is already considered by many as a modern classic rom-com.

Gyeongseong Creature and Queen of Tears are both available on Netflix.

2024 Has Also Been Big For Ahn Jae-hong & Song Ha-yoon

Ahn Jae-hong played Joo-man, Song Ha-yoon played Baek Seol-hee

Ahn Jae-hong and Song Ha-yoon, who starred in Fight For My Way alongside Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won, are also having a successful 2024. Song Ha-yoon played Su-mi in Marry My Husband, a time travel revenge K-drama starring Park Min-young. Su-mi was one of the show’s main villains alongside Min-whan, having become romantically involved with her best friend’s husband. Song Ha-yoon’s character in Fight For My Way is gentle and kind, whereas her Marry My Husband villain is rude and despicable. Su-mi became even worse during Marry My Husband’s ending, a testament to Song Ha-yoon’s acting chops.

Marry My Husband is available on Prime Video; Chicken Nugget is available on Netflix.

Ahn Jae-hong played Kim Joo-man in Fight For My Way, the smartest of the Crazy Fantastic Four. Joo-man was one of the funniest characters in Fight For My Way, which is why it was no surprise to see Ahn Jae-hong starring in one of the most hilarious K-dramas of 2024. Chicken Nugget, a Netflix original about a woman who turns into a chicken nugget after entering a strange machine, saw An Jae-hong as Baek-joong. He and his boss spent most of the Netflix comedy trying to turn the chicken nugget back into a human in a hilarious story.
