My experience at Hyde Park Academy was not good. Living in the suburbs my whole life and then switching over to a Chicago Public School was a life changing experience for me. I moved to the South Side of Chicago and attended Hyde Park Academy High School for my last year as a Senior. The first two weeks there have been many incidents. Gun violence, bombs being thrown on staircases, fire alarms being pulled, and multiple fights and altercations. The school is not diverse and it didn't seem to be in order or controlled as it should be. The kids didn't take the adults very seriously, and the adults mostly just let them off the leash. I didn't feel very safe being there knowing that the kids were torturing each other and didn't respect one another. I was coming from a school that had very strict boundaries and had everything together and organized. The kids weren't running through the halls, skipping class, disrespecting teachers, fighting, and being ignorant.
My four years at Hyde Park Academy High School were truly enjoyable. Regretfully, it will come to an end in May 2024. I'm proud of myself because I worked extremely hard for me to be a top 10 student for four years. Lack of help for college-related matters was the worst aspect of the school. I was frequently forced to ask my own inquiries. Overall, I believe that Hyde Park was great, and I hope the incoming freshmen feel the same way.
The best part was during my sophomore year where my grades and teachers were the best. My art related classes are really and those teachers have help me the most. My worst experience was my recent class and the behavior of the students.
