      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Law & Order returns with its tried-and-true formula unchanged, sticking to its strengths as a straightforward procedural while giving some acknowledgement of society's increasingly polarized view of crime and punishment.

Melanie McFarland Salon.com No profession could ask for a better public relationship machine than the one Wolf and fellow procedural creators and producers provide to law enforcement, free of charge. Feb 26, 2022 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com The formula remains unchanged, just with new pieces plugged into the machinery, among them Camryn Manheim as Bernard's boss. And given the longevity of Dick Wolf's creation and its various spinoffs, why mess with success? Feb 26, 2022 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune The show feels like a walking corpse brought back from the dead, but lacking any of the important animating qualities that made it stand out in a well-worn genre. Rated: 1.5/4 Feb 25, 2022 Full Review William Schwartz Book & Film Globe Regrettably, the twenty-first season of Law and Order picks up right where the 2010 version left off, the true crime influences of the early seasons completely forgotten. Jul 21, 2022 Full Review Mads Misasi Tell-Tale TV Fortunately, the show succeeds with a few well-placed casting choices and a case that leaves viewers conflicted. Rated: 3/5 Feb 26, 2022 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Whether the show will really go deep into examining the reality of policing in the post-George-Floyd era is still to be determined. But, judging by the first episode, it’s going in the right direction. Feb 26, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Paul T I still watch the reruns and was really looking forward to the new series but its pale shadow of the original, wooden acting, and where's the humour gone? the one off observations of Lennie Briscoe and Van Buren were brilliant as the comments of Arthur Branch and Adam Schiff were a delight, nothing like that so far Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/25/24 Full Review Donna R Utterly incredible that a majority of "professional" critics rate this sludge positively. The scripts are so bad that the characters act in completely incoherent ways; the understanding of legal issues, once the show's strong point, is nonexistent; and the acting (especially the prosecutors) is worse than a high-school play, largely because the writing is so juvenile. This is like a parody of the old stellar show. I'm willing to put up with a lot for mindless evening TV, but this is actually the worst acting and writing I have EVER seen on prime time. How the mighty have fallen. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review John C I'm sorry, but the writing and the pacing was really bad. Nothing like the first 20 years of the show. Surprised anyone could watch more than an episode! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/15/23 Full Review Carol J Nothing is the same and it isn't an improvement. Unless you can go back to the days of Briscoe and Green and Jack McCoy as ADA, maybe it's time to hang it up. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review M Cathleen W It is definitely not the same show. Maybe it's the directors fault maybe it's in production. To see such fine actors as Sam Waterson, overacting along with everyone else on the show. It's oh waste of their talent. And a waste of my time. The stories are not new with seeing heard them all before. And again with the overacting the trying to be dramatic in a quart room it's just not working it's not the same as it used to be. I don't watch it anymore. Absolute tried and true favorites, L&O SVU & also L&O OC. I think they were trying to do a Thursday night L&O lineup like they are trying to say Chicago one. For me this Reboot, L&O I don't watch anymore. If they get ever good directors, good production & much better Storylines, I would watch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Sharon C I've always loved watching this franchise but the reboot of Law and Order doesn't deliver. The original was one of my favorites, but not this season. The writing is poor and acting by Hugh Dancy and Odelya Halevi is pathetic. It's unwatchable. I still love SVU and Criminal intent, but this show is a first class rotten tomato. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/30/22 Full Review Read all reviews
