R&B’s State of Emergency Rescued with Monica’s Code Red
Recensito negli Stati Uniti il 18 dicembre 2015
Let’s face it, real music and/or music with substance is severely lacking in our society and has been for a number of years. Taking it back to the basics of just natural…powerful singing is needed. Monica is a gem and her voice is timeless; I’m glad that she is back with new music. Monica is my favorite singer and this album is further proof of that. I would describe “Code Red” as a musical masterpiece that will send an amber alert to the world and they will listen.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Monica on a number of occasions and each time she shows love and respect for those who support her; this is definitely reflected in her music. I love the album! Vocals, Lyrics, Musical Arrangements are all on point. This album is well arranged.
I recently had the pleasure of pre-listening to this album. Monica sent out a private playlist to her fans on her mailing list.
Here is my track by track review…
1. "Code Red" (featuring Missy Elliott & Laiyah)
I’ve been saying for a while that I really hope Monica puts her daughter Laiyah on the album. All the cute and hilarious Instagram videos Monica posts of Laiyah led me to this conclusion, you can only respect Monica for the woman she has evolved into: wife to the homey SB, and mother to her beautiful children. Laiyah is full of life and is a joy to listen to and of course Missy is LEGEND. This song is a banger and it is so unique. Great opener for the concept of the entire album. “Turn off the radio (that’s right), we don’t wanna hear that [beep] no more. Code Red right here!”
2. “Just Right for Me" (featuring Lil Wayne)
The lead single for the album is an amazing, upbeat track with great vocals and a fun concept. The Lil’ Wayne feature is a plus. Definitely a favorite!
3. "Love Just Ain’t Enough" (featuring Timbaland)
I love the concept of this track. Truly amazing!!!! The harmonies are so dope and it has that old school R&B vibe. This is a hit! The lyrics mention “Sometimes the beautiful things get ugly.” There is so much truth in this song. This is one of my favorites.
4. "Call My Name"
I love this track. It carries the same theme as Destiny’s Child hit record “Say My Name.” If you’re doing what you’re supposed to and you have nothing to hide, let me hear you say my name! Monica does it again! She says this is her favorite song on the album.
5. "I Know"
MY FAVORITE TRACK ON THE CODE RED ALBUM. “I Know” is an emotionally charged, vocal powerhouse ballad that will leave you speechless. You’ll be forced to play it over and over again. It speaks of strong confidence in a relationship.
Some of my favorite lyrics from this track:
“Slowly, I’m believing what I’m seeing. Suddenly, I’m trusting what I’m feeling. This time, this love ain’t leaving me cold. Cause I Know.”
“When I tell you I love you, know I mean every word. When you tell me that you love me, it’s the sweetest truth I’ve ever heard.”
Such a beautiful song.
6. "All Men Lie" (featuring Timbaland)
What an honor! We get two tracks from Monica and super producer Timbaland, I like the arrangements they put together for both of their tracks. “If all men lie, tell me what the women do.” Great concept.
7. "Deep"
I LOVE THIS TRACK! Real Rhythm and Blues music right here. As soon as the beat flows through your ears you will hear what I’m talking about. This is one of my favorites on the album!
8. "Hustler's Ambition" (featuring Akon)
This is an awesome and catchy duet. Akon and Monica sound great together. The song’s premise is based on a relationship where you work to provide materially while still maintain the love for those you hold dear to your heart. You hustle because you love your family.
9. "Alone in Your Heart"
This track is so different for Monica and I love how she steps outside of her comfort zone for this track. I love the infectious lyrics and catchy hook. “I’m all alone in your heart, I love you baby… You ain’t, you ain’t, you ain’t nobody else’s…” This is one of my favorites.
10. "Suga"
This track gives me that Klymaxx, Vanity 6, Rick James, Teddy Riley feel. I love it! The beat and harmony arrangement is crazy amazing! Great upbeat track. Monica steps outside of the box again and is successful! I like this track!
11. "Ocean of Tears"
Great reggae feel to this song. It kind of reminds me of the arrangement of Man Who Has Everything from Monica’s New Life album. I’m feeling this track a lot.
12. "Saints & Sinners"
A powerful meaning and a wonderful ballad. Monica belts out powerful vocals and pours her heart out on this track.
13. "I Miss Music"
An emotional ode to the classics. Real Music is severely lacking in today’s society, we miss it; Monica affectionately sings about it. This song provides a wonderful feeling of nostalgia. The acoustic arrangement is riveting.
14. "Anchor"
This track is a truly powerful track. Amazing ballad and meaning! This track is inspirational and has a Gospel feel.
Code Red breathes life into a world that was musically dead; there is hope for resuscitation. Monica stated in an interview she did on the album that she titled the album Code Red because she, like many others, feel that R&B Music and music in general is in a state of emergency. She further said that she knows she can’t revive the genre on her own, it has to be a group effort, she mentioned the likes of Tyrese, Tank, Brandy, and others who share this mutual feeling. The Code Red Album is a BIG STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. Do your ears a favor and get this album! Enjoy.

MISS THANG GIBT " ALARMSTUFE ROT "
Recensito in Germania il 5 gennaio 2016
Das sie singen kann brauche ich nicht zu erwähnen.( Man höre sich mal Klassiker wie " Why I Love You So Much " oder " For You I Will an.)Anspieltipps sind : " Love Just Ain't Enough " , " Code Red " " All Men Lie " " I Know " " Saints & Sinners. Durchweg einfach ein SUPER ALBUM ! GO MISS THANG !

4.5 out of 5 for an GREAT body of work but a WONDERFUL vocalist
Recensito nel Regno Unito il 18 dicembre 2015
Monica managed to fuse the great R&B of the Peak 90s and blend it with the current sounds without watering down her vocal prowess.
Beautiful R&B pop ballads like I know and Anchor shine brightly. Deep and Alone In Your Heart are the perfect blend of the then and now R&B sound combined. She excercises her versatility on songs like Code Red, Suga, Ocean Of Tears and Love Ain't Enough.
Excellent job putting this project together. Only reason I didn't 5 star was because on Call My Name I didn't think the swearing was needed on that particular song and the title track was bit busy sounding to me, but as it is a representation of Atlanta hip sounds, so I get it plus showed a different element to Mo's repertoire as a singer.
