What travelers are saying
- Ogi0Sofia, Bulgaria22,206 contributionsWe visited the palace on Friday at noon. There were not many people and a line for the tickets. The place is quite large, and relatively interesting, especially the treasury.Written May 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joane FBirmingham, MI13 contributionsGreat Museum and worth visiting in Munich. Impressive display of BMW's and interesting historical context. Definitely recommend. Even though I am not a car enthusiast, I really enjoyed this museum, especially on a cold and rainy day in Munich.Written May 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Travel with SeanMadison, WI527 contributionsIn the 18th Century, the Asam brothers built a church between a couple houses they remodeled, all very beautifully designed with intricate details. The fresco on the ceiling was painted by one of the Asam brothers and is called "Life of Saint Nepomuk" (to whom the church is dedicated). The Asam brothers studied under Bernini in Rome, a leading architect and sculptor of the 17th Century. The high altar is framed by four spiral columns which are a reference to the four Bernini columns over the grave of St. Peter in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.Written April 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ogi0Sofia, Bulgaria22,206 contributionsBuilt in 1836, there are works by the old masters (14th-18th centuries) - Dürer, Rubens, Bruegel, Van Dyck, Titian, Raphael, Rembrandt, etc. We were here on a Sunday at noon, there were a lot of people but the tickets were only 1 euro each. The museum is very interesting and can be seen in about an hour and a half. I recommend it.Written May 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tanya867Whitehorse, Canada214 contributionsThis stop was enjoyable, free and had lots to see. We were able to view many cars and motorcycles and bought a nice souvenir for our son.
We did stop for coffee but there were two nice looking cafes onsite.
We enjoyed this stop more than the museum across the street!Written April 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Well worth the ticket price.Written May 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ray H29 contributionsAbout 300+ steps. The walk up was well worth it. WARNING to anyone who is claustrophobic. Avoid if you aren’t able to handle tight spaces. Gets very tight. Especially when some people are walking down the stairs and you’re trying to go up. It’s very cramped. The view is worth it. The top has a spot for you to rest. If you can handle all the stairs, I highly recommend!Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CJTravelerTexasTexas8,985 contributionsOn a recent trip to the Bavarian capital, I made it a point to visit Lenbachhaus, a building housing the Städtische Galerie (Municipal Gallery); I had previously visited this museum a number of years ago upon the recommendation of a person employed by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Photographs are permitted in this museum. I found this visit as enjoyable as the first time I experienced this museum.Written April 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NyriTampa, FL179 contributionsHeading to Oktoberfest, here are 25 tips that will help!
1. Train is the mode of transportation, period, there really are no options for parking because the area is blocked off.
2. Find out where you are, the location of the train station, and where to get off. My hotel gave exact directions, follow the crowd.
3. If you want to avoid the biggest crowds, go midweek early in the day about 12, it was busy but not as jam packed.
4. There is no getting lost, follow the crowd inside and remember entrance is FREE!
5. They do have a security check to make sure you have no weapons or sharp objects in your bag, just open up and be polite!
6. Eat everything you can, especially the fried (rotisserie) chicken (organic or non organic, this caused a controversy) with potato salad.
6. Have some brats!
7. The pretzels will taste a bit different, no they are not stale.
8. A stein holds about 4 single beers, remember that while drinking!
9. You can dance on the benches, dancing on tables will get you thrown out!
10. The bathrooms are really clean everywhere, leave a euro or two for the attendants keeping them clean!
11. No beer drinking outside beer tents!
12. Try the candied almonds and you better get some ice cream!
13. Grab one of the raspberry filled pastries that ladies are walking around selling, they were delicious!
14. Protect your valuables.
15. Ladies if you get drunk they have a special tent for you!
16. Return your glass bottle back to where you bought it, they will give you a euro. Or give it to those collecting bottles outside the festival, do not throw them in the trash!
17. They do have after parties and clubs nearby, you will see posters, attend if interested!
18. Wheelchairs and walkers are easily navigated, plan to go when crowds are lower if needed.
19. Yes! This is a family affair, they have rides, roller coasters, and lots of other child friendly activities, bring those kiddies!
20. Traffic will be a monster when you leave, don’t try to get an Uber, take the train back to where you started!
21. You will walk about 15-20 thousand steps or more, comfortable shoes are essential!
22. The weather was very nice, a t- shirt is perfect especially during mid-day.
23. Plan to have some cash, many vendors don’t accept cards, especially American Express or Discover, you will see many ATM machines.
24. Most people speak a bit of several other languages, but if they don’t brush up on your German and use your google translate!
25. Have a ball and enjoy the experience, there is nothing like it!
Hope these tips are helpful if you plan to attend Oktoberfest in the future, enjoy!

Here, on large boards on several floors, the birth of the National Socialist Party (Munich is the birthplace) and the rise of Hitler are explained. Covers the years from the end of World War I to the end of World War II.Written May 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - toni r2 contributionsExcellent guided tour of the museum. We spent an hour walking around by ourselves before the tour began. The tour brought everything to life, our guide was enthusiastic about the subject and this helped to bring things to life. The highlight for me was seeing Elvis' BMW which had been loving restored.Written July 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JohnRegoParkRego Park, NY1,232 contributionsThis is a perfect place to see a performance. The acoustics are wonderful and the sound fills the auditorium perfectly. The orchestra is among the finest in the world. We sat on the side in one of the balconies and we could see and hear everything just fine. There are supertitles projected above the stage: on the left in German and on the right in English. If you sit in a space in which the supertitles are not visible, they have screens dangling from the bottom of balconies--however those are only in German. Although the website says that you should come as you are to the opera and be comfortable--this was a dress up crowd.Written July 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Traveler OWashington DC, DC1,149 contributionsExcellent tribute to Baroque architecture with the immaculate interior of this church. Entrance is free, but be quiet and respectful as it remains in active use. Worth the stop.Written April 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
