Mr. Truitte Moreland, Principal

Truitte Moreland attended secondary school in Broward County, Florida and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida.  While at the University of South Florida, he participated in a variety of student activities and organizations, including the Campus Activities Board, Safe Team, WBUL (campus radio), The Oracle (campus newspaper), and The National PanHellenic Council as a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.  Mr. Moreland earned a campus leadership award for his work with black students as they transitioned to college, he received the “Greek of the Year” from the National PanHellenic Council, and was inducted into Phi Beta Sigma’s Collegiate Hall of Fame for his leadership efforts while a college student. 

Mr. Moreland has worked in the public school setting and with non-profit organizations for the last 20 years.  He has served as a classroom teacher, curriculum integration specialist, administrative assistant, assistance principal of curriculum.  He has worked in the elementary, middle, and high school settings.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from American Intercontinental University and has been a school administrator for 12 years, with 8 being as a principal.  Mr. Moreland has received several honors in the field of education.  He was the Gold Medallion recipient for the 2017 Leonard Miller Principal Leadership Award from the Council for Educational Change.   He was also honored as a recipient of the Innovation in Education Award from the Jacksonville Business Journal.  He was featured in the Times Union as one of the change agents that led the work to turn Eugene J. Butler around from being the county’s lowest performing middle school and one of the lowest performing schools in the state of Florida, into the Young Men’s and Women’s Leadership Academy.  He currently serves as the Principal of Andrew Jackson High School of Advanced Studies, continuing the work that was started by previous outstanding leaders.  The school now boasts a 98% graduation rate, four budding career academies, and numerous career-related business partnerships.

Outside of education, he volunteers as a way of improving the community. He has served as a youth soccer coach, on the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville CSGP committee as a Community Representative, along with other projects.  Mr. Moreland defines educators as practitioners who have the responsibility of teaching, modeling, and inspiring others to be committed to the principles of honor, scholarship, and service.  He has a passion for kids, learning, and teaching.  Mr. Moreland strives to be the best father, husband, learner, and educator that he can.

Ms. Sharmariton Ashley, Assistant Principal

Sharmariton Ashley is one of the current Assistant Principals of Andrew Jackson High School. She has been in the field of education for 16 years. Prior to being a school-based administrator, she served as standards coach and testing coordinator at Andrew Jackson High School. Ms. Ashley is a proud alumni of Andrew Jackson High School and is a true and faithful Tiger!

Ms. Ashley earned a Master of Education degree from The University of Phoenix with a focus in Instruction and Curriculum. Her service as a teacher, and teacher leader has helped shape her leadership style as a transformational leader. Ms. Ashley is excited to develop positive relationships with teachers, parents, and students of Andrew Jackson High school.
