CARBONDALE, sick. – The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team continues to add to its 2024 recruiting class as guard Alice Curman has signed with the program.

Curman is a 6-foot-7, newly arrived defenseman from Stockholm, Sweden. He is a combo guard who is explosive, can shoot the three, can get downfield, and can also create. Defensively, Curman is considered a “tough guy,” which adds firepower to the Salukis' backcourt.

“The game honors toughness,” head coach Kelly Bond-White he said. “In every movie we watched, Alice was jumping on the floor, stealing, taking charges, all while playing a physical brand of basketball. It was these intangible qualities that set her apart from others. It was her skill set that made her a saluki. We love her understanding of pace and movement off the ball.”

With an unprecedented array of high school trophies and a multitude of accolades and broken records, Curman is one of the most decorated players in her league. The guard won the Scania Cup gold medal in 2024 and won the national title twice (2023 and 2022).

During her team's championship appearances, Alice was a two-time Final Four MVP, a two-time All-Star selection, a two-time Elite Eight player of the round, and was named Sweet Sixteen player of the round (2022).

In 2021, Curman made it to her country's national team, where she won the Norwegian championship, and then won silver at the Baltic Tournament and European Championships in 2023.

“Long Zoom is calling her and her family, talking to coaches and scouts all over the country,” Bond-White said. “Everyone came back saying that not only had we found an influencer, but we had also landed an influencer who would allow us to do the NextStep (KBW Foundation) in moving our culture forward.”

Curman plans to study engineering and mathematics once he arrives at SIU.
