Suncoast is a magnet school that has four main programs: International Baccalaureate, MSE, IIT, and Computer Science. This school greatly prepares it students for college by offering college-level classes and resources for education after high school. Personally my experience with the IB program has been amazing. I am able to do college-level coursework with guidance from teachers while still learning how to complete challenging assignments on my own. Besides its superior academics, most of Suncoast's clubs are mainly run by students. I have become a President and Vice president of two clubs and I am proud of the leadership and teamwork skills I acquired during my school years. In the future, I hope Suncoast offers more mental health resources for its students, as its coursework can be so demanding. Many students feel overwhelmed, but adding more counselors on campus and structuring classes in a way as not to overwhelm students would benefit their success in their respective programs.
You need to push yourself to do well here, and there's really no point in going here unless you're trying to get into a good university. I graduated in 2020 from the IB program, although it was a very stressful experience and sometimes navigating administration was a hassle. However, the education was great, many teachers were phenomenal, and this school definitely helped me prepare to the point where I graduated a year early and am on my way to medical school.
What I loved about my school it’s a small school you feel more of a community there with your teachers. You know all of the teachers there, all of the teachers are willing to stay stay back and help you and tutor you I just wished we had more diversity as far as black culture at the school. I’m choosing to go to HBCU because I feel there’s a no diversity at my high school, so I just want to learn more about my culture. I love the positivity and the students there I’ve gained friends that I will have for lifetime. We always root for each other. I love the band the band was like the only thing there that really gave me a sense of feeling my African-American roots, so I wish we just had more inclusion as far as minorities. they also pushed AP classes on you when you wanted to get out of them they made you take them anyway even if you explain to them that it was too hard to take telling you that is a good look for college and it really dropped my GPA in those classes.
