Mostly empty, very few vendors. Too bad because it has the potential to be a fun place to go. The highlight was the bakery in the back right corner. I don't remember the name but she was a delightful lady that had butter cookies that were SO good! We debated on buying a single cookie or getting the 6 pack. Decided on the 6 pack with the intention of sharing with the rest of the family but after we tasted one we didn't share them with ANYONE!!!! Bwahahaha!!!!!! They were a little pricey but so worth it! I'd go back there just for those. Maybe after COVID it will have more vendors.

We went to Cedar Rapids on Saturday and stopped by here. Due to COVID there weren't as many vendors that have been there in the past. It was still fun to wander around and I happened upon a merchant that I had received a gift from and so I was happy to make a purchase from her.

What a gem! The market has a mix of shops: coffee, food, and handmade items. I was so relieved to find some healthy options while on vacation in Cedar Rapids. Food options included BBQ, stylist grilled cheese, authentic Indian, and Vietnamese. There was also a bar and a great coffee bar. The food items were unique and creative - not your predictable fare.
There were a few handmade craft shops, too. I bought some handmade soaps and art made from reclaimed barn wood.
Across from Newbo is a cute little street you can walk with more homemade food items and boutique stores. It's a great little area.

We expected this to be sort of like a farmers' market. But it is mostly food shops. There are lots of snacks, drinks, and meals available here. There are also two shops selling non-food items. We weren't going here for lunch, so this was a big disappointment for us.

I visited the NewBo City Market for the first time last week and I was impressed. Having been to a huge market in the Twin Cities, I thought this is a great start for a place the size of CR. I tried the pork burger with pineapple mango sauce special at the Caribbean place and it was made to order and it was good but nothing special, the sauce could have been a bit spicier and the ciabatta roll was wonderful. Next time, I think I will try one of the signature curries or jerk chicken and ask for the spicy version. The heritage white and wheat bread from Betty & Bobo's Better Bread stall was indeed better than most...in fact, it was very good! If I lived in CR, I would make a regular stop to buy a loaf or two. I was intrigued by their specialty bread flavors (apricot and sage) and will definitely come back. I tried a coconut cupcake & I am sorry to say it was disappointing...the young owner is oh so nice, but the coconut cake was too oily and dense and didn't have much flavor at all. The buttercream frosting had a little too much salt, but it actually provided a sweet/salty flavor, which was the only notable flavor for the dessert. I would try another of her flavors...perhaps the chocolate cupcakes are the best, but I could not recommend any vanilla cake based flavor if the batter is the same. The BEST taste of my visit to the NewBo was without a doubt, a lavendar vanilla latte from Roasters...this was simply sublime and was artfully crafted by a knowledgeable and friendly barista. I hope that people give the NewBo a chance...for the reviewers that diss it because it is not huge, consider the efforts and commitment that these local vendors must demonstrate to provide this market experience to Cedar Rapids. Support the vendors who are at the NewBo and it will encourage the enterprise to grow. I also loved seeing the Little Free Library outside the market... Overall this is a nice addition to a neighborhood that is being revitalized.

It had been several years since we visited Newbo Market and lots had changed but one thing remained the same, lots of great little kiosks to stop by and grab a snack, lunch or a do a little shopping. Nice and clean, family friendly, finding parking was quite a challenge and we weren't there at a busy time. Loved the Chocolate we purchased and would have shopped more at the Big Boy Meats but had a long drive back home.

My 4 yr old and I went here for a Saturday lunch hour for a walk and to check things out. We had a lot of fun. We looked at crafts and art for kids and adults alike. She got a new handmade headband that looks like a tiara. (Big deal as you know if you have a little girl). We also got a delicious cupcake from "That one cupcake place"..We enjoyed the shopping and occasional snacking and she kept calling it a party. I guess it looked like one to her and why wouldn't it? People having fun, eating, drinking, and generally socializing and having a great time..That's a party. We were there about 1 1/2 hrs and that was enough for us..I would have stayed longer if I was with other adults. We bought a wonderful Raspberry bread to take home and some fantastic Spinach Feta Chicken Sausage brats too. Just a cool place. For adults I recommend it. As for bringing kids...Well..Not a lot to do but for something different and to spend an hour on a rainy day, maybe grab a snack i think it's good for kids in that way.. we'll be back again soon.

Having moved to the area recently, everyone told us we HAD to go to the Newbo Market - that it was awesome. So we went.
We both enjoyed it, but it didn't quite meet those expectations. About half of it is a food court and farmer's market, with fresh local foods and cuisines from around the world. The variety is excellent for a small city. And about half of it is rotating vendors, basically a mini arts and crafts fair. Kirkwood College also runs one-day cooking classes in this location. There was a juggler performing when we went as well.
That said, there were about 30-40 vendors total - respectable, but not nearly meeting the hype about it from the locals.
Still - we recommend you go when hungry, grab a bite to eat and take a look at what people are making. Just don't expect it to be as huge as some of the locals will tell you it is.

This is a great place to have a quick breakfast, lunch, or snack. If you like to buy local there are a few vendors selling meat, produce, and bread. Half of the building is dedicated to weekly vendors selling different crafts and handmade items. I usually can't leave without buying some new earings, a fair trade coffee, and a caprese salad from the Greyhound Deli! It could use some more seating for dining. This is one of my favorite Saturday morning activities!
