Truman High School Reviews
Rating 3.61 out of 5 206 reviews
At Truman High School there are great teachers and some not so great teachers. Likewise, there are great opportunities at Truman. However, whether the student is willing to search for these opportunities or seek out these teachers will determine how they shape their time at Truman High Schools. One thing I particularly enjoyed about Truman High School and the Independence school district is their academy system. This academy system puts students in five different academies: freshman, public service, arts & education, STEM, and business. Within these academies there are different pathways, which correlate with different careers, that each students can try, and if a student sticks to a pathway their junior and senior year they are able to get hands on experience at different capstones. The academies have allowed for me to try different career paths and narrow down what I want to do before going to college.
Truman High School can lead to a very different high school experience depending on the person. For instance, for those who want to be involved in clubs, there are many clubs to choose from. However, we have a very large student body of 1600+ and only a small portion of those students belong to any clubs. We also have fairly updated facilities, but we have too many students in our building. The overall culture in our school is pretty poor due to the lack of involvement and the facilities, so our bathrooms are often vandalized and fights typically happen a few times a day. Nevertheless, it is possible to have a great high school experience at Truman if a student puts in the effort.
While my time at Truman has been long not overall a positive one. Some teachers don't seem to truly care about teaching you, others may give you work and tell you to figure it out.
