Melanie McFarland Salon.com This series would fail a critic's very basic tests for what constitutes a good comedy and feels intentionally pandering to people of color... Jul 9, 2019 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Family Reunion plays like a kid-centric Disney Channel sitcom or something out of ABC's old TGIF lineup (once home to Mowry's "Sister, Sister"). Jul 9, 2019 Full Review Kiera Allen Daily Journal (Kankakee, IL) This series doesn't lack seasoned actors and actresses, but the kids bring the laughs and the show itself to new heights. Aug 12, 2019 Full Review Emily Ashby Common Sense Media Heartwarming, if uneven, sitcom about family relationships. Rated: 3/5 Jul 24, 2019 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Family Reunion is definitely old-fashioned in many ways. But it's also got some fine performances, occasionally smart writing, and it discusses issues that will make you and your kids think between the laughs. Jul 11, 2019 Full Review Brenden Gallagher The Daily Dot Family Reunion frequently mentions hot-button issues and toes the line of saying something interesting, only to settle for safer punchlines. Shawna C Love all 5 seasons. Very Funny. Always a lesson to be learned. Handles everyday life topics fantastically. A show to watch with entire family. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Balthazar X too much like an afterschool special. bad writing, overly preachy. i've tried to watch this show several times and barely get past the first couple of episodes because they spend so much effort trying to teach a lesson, badly. you can teach while entertaining, but you can't teach while pretending to entertain... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/24/23 Full Review William P Look, you might think that I'm not the best person to rate this as I'm a white male, but I am disabled so I think that I can somewhat relate. Let's get the better parts out of the way. The acting is ok, the storylines are… fine. It's the discrimination that gets me annoyed. They're constantly saying about how they ‘love to be black' and how they're ‘so glad to not be white.' Look, us disabled people don't make shows saying, ‘we're so glad to be disabled, we're so happy that we're not able.' Being black is fine, I'm not racist in the slightest, I don't care what you look like, what gender you are, sexuality, race, hair etc. But you don't go around saying that you're so glad that you're not one race. You say that white people saying that's they like being white is racism but black people saying the same thing about hem selves isn't racist. It's rubbish. It's worse being disabled but I don't say that I'm so happy about being disabled. It's pandering and I don't like how people who have it easy compared to us disabled people say how amazing it is to be a certain skin tone! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/27/23 Full Review Heather G Idk, this show tends to get confusing. The skip so many things, like Jade running away, and where TF did thus baby come from? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/05/23 Full Review Amanat S This show is a very heartwarming piece. It shows the struggles of a black family as well as incorporating comedy. However, I feel the editing is not the best, which also decreases the show's value. For example, on Halloween night, the kids bring out the ouija board they were not supposed to be playing with. Outside the window, you can see that it is night, but when the kids run downstairs, it's day outside the windows. If one scene is shown to be dark outside, it should be the same for the following scene. Another example is the thunder. I don't exactly remember the episode but I have noticed that every once in a while, there is thunder, indicating a storm. If this is the case, the thunder should look more realistic, as well as the colour of the sky. While the thunder was being edited in, it looked bright outside. Realistically speaking, whilst in a thunderstorm, it should look dark and cloudy, not bright. Another example can be the scene when M'dear and her son, Mozz were competing in the salsa competition. While they were dancing, the camera was pointed downwards so that it wouldn't show M'dear's face, indicating that an extra is being used. However, if an extra is being used in any case, it should have to look like the person they are trying to imitate. The extra that was used, was a bit skinnier. Yes, these are little remarks, but as I watch the show, I see more and more editing mistakes that should be fixed easily. Overall, this show is good to watch for an audience that is in their teens, and I find it a nice background noise when doing my work. But I do actually enjoy watching the show, it does incorporate the struggles, yes, but they also execute other issues that should be aware to society. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/19/22 Full Review nom n The acting is really bad and hard to get by... It's not funny and I find it hard to watch. I was really disappointed because Tia Mowry was in this and I loved her role in Sister Sister. Another thing is, maybe not so much in the first season or like at all, but in the later seasons the race of the family is just such a big deal... I just want to watch a show and not have to deal with racial politics and certain agendas. In the next season they randomly break out into song and dance. I find the show overall really boring and like I said before, hard to watch. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/02/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
