2023 Ford Maverick Interior Review

The 2023 Ford Maverick has a sturdy and utilitarian cabin with generous seating space, tons of useful cubbies and a user-friendly infotainment system. The Maverick's bed, though small, is cleverly designed and capable of hauling a hefty payload.

Scorecard

  • Interior 7.3
  • "The interior is pretty cool. Ford constructed the interior with seemingly inexpensive plastic and other materials without making the entire vibe feel cheap. There are robust, tough-looking surfaces that feel like they'll hold up to abuse over time and interesting textures, colors and design elements that jazz up the cabin." -- Edmunds (2022)
  • "The Maverick is one of the year's cleverest vehicles. The development mantra was 'simple, but not basic,' a philosophy made clear by thoughtful detailing that make its inexpensive interior feel anything but cheap." -- The Detroit Free Press (2022)
  • "Rather than trying to hide that most of the Maverick's interior surfaces are plastic, the design team embraced it and chose to get funky with unique moldings that add intrigue to otherwise mundane trim pieces." -- The Drive (2022)

Cargo

The Maverick has a 4-foot-6-inch bed with a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds. The bed is relatively small for a compact pickup truck, but its numerous tie-down cleats, storage cubbies, power outlets and multiposition tailgate make up for that scarcity of space.

  • "The 4.5-foot bed has slots for lumber to divide up the available space horizontally and to create two-tiered storage. The tailgate has a middle position that puts it at the same level as the wheel wells for hauling sheets of four-by-eight-foot plywood." -- Car and Driver (2022)
  • "If you fold up the rear seats, you have access to two large storage bins. They're big enough for some athletic gear and can also serve as a spot to keep small items out of view. In hybrid models, one of the storage bins is taken up by the battery pack." -- Kelley Blue Book (2022)
  • "The Maverick’s humble bed is a mere 4.5 feet, but it's clever as hell and packed full of utility. It's still big enough to fit a pallet of mulch, with a standard 1,500-pound payload. … Up to 10 bed tie-downs and a cargo management system allow you to secure your load. A pair of tailgate tie-downs double as bottle openers. There are two pre-wired 12-volt outlets for wiring in your own accessories, and an available 120-volt outlet allows you to plug in tools or appliances. Cubbies in the side of the bed allow for further storage, and a false floor in those cubbies can be removed to accommodate something like a two-liter bottle." -- Autoblog (2022)

Seating

The Maverick is a Crew Cab pickup truck with five seats. Cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats are standard. Synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat and a heated steering wheel are available.

The front seats provide sufficient room for taller occupants, but the seat cushions are rather small, which can create pressure points on longer trips. The rear seats can fit two adults or three kids in reasonable comfort.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

  • "There's also gobs of space inside. Ford won't like me spilling the beans, but the Maverick actually has more front-seat head-, leg-, and shoulder-room than the much-larger Ranger. In reality, the cabin is more accommodating in nearly every dimension than Ford's midsizer. The Maverick actually feels nicer overall and more modern inside, to boot." -- CNET (2022)
  • "Up front, there's plenty of room for small items in the center console and plenty of room for two average-size adults. At least two average-size adults will fit in the back seat. Most drivers and passengers will need to duck to get inside the Maverick, though, because of the low roof height." -- Edmunds (2022)
  • "… we weren't exactly thrilled with the seats. They weren't the most comfortable, and we wonder how well they'd support occupants over a long trip. In the back seat, while there's room for three on the bench, legroom is at a premium, and we would have liked to see USB ports as standard equipment in the rear on all trim levels." -- Motor Trend (2022)

Interior Features

Maverick standard features include an analog gauge cluster, an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, two USB ports, remote keyless entry, power windows, cruise control and single-zone air conditioning.

Available features include navigation, satellite radio, an eight-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, two additional USB ports, 120-volt household-style power outlets, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting and a moonroof.

The infotainment system is user-friendly, but the touch screen can be hard to see in direct sunlight.

  • "The 8.0-inch touchscreen isn't as high-resolution as Ford's best and excludes features such as built-in nav, although that's no real loss with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality." -- Car and Driver (2022)
  • "The 8-inch multimedia screen is oddly dim and hard to read on bright, sunny days; that it's also perfectly vertical and not raked at an angle at all doesn't help, either." -- Cars.com (2022)
  • "The infotainment system and controls are easy to use, but it's not Ford’s latest software, so features like wireless Apple CarPlay, versus wired Apple CarPlay, aren't available." -- The Detroit Free Press (2022)
