THE SCHOOL - 59 Years of Success

Claremont Secondary School is located in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. Claremont School opened on September 1, 1962 to serve the local population in the Municipality of Saanich and the Saanich Peninsula. Claremont is located in the seaside neighborhood of Cordova Bay. The school has a strong history of leadership, beginning with our first Principal, Mr. Joe Lott continuing through to our current Principal, Mr. Peter Westhaver.

The school has a student population of 1034 students and a staff of over 100 including teaching, support and administrative staff. Our student population is quite diverse and this year includes 89 International Students representing many Countries.

Claremont Secondary School has a reputation for excellence in academics, athletics and the arts. Academically, we offer Advanced Placement courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition. Our Math department provides students with the opportunity to compete in National and International Math Contests consistently achieving top scores. Our writing program produces students whose work is often featured and celebrated in competitions and printed in publications such as the Claremont Review. Many of our students earn scholarships to post-secondary institutions in Canada and abroad. Our Athletic department consistently produces teams which represent the school at major tournaments including Provincial Championships. Our arts courses include the visual and performing arts. Productions for the public are held each year in the Ridge Theatre.

We are proud of the way we support a wide range of learners. The school works hard to support students to do their very in every area of their life at Claremont and beyond. We also believe it is important to support charitable organizations in our community and around the world.

While Claremont is renowned for its scholastic rigour, consistently ranking at the very top amongst public schools on Vancouver Island in overall academic performance, we are also well known for our commitment to humanitarian pursuits, the fine arts, foods, trades, technology, ELL (English Language Learners) and athletics. Many of our innovative offerings strive to put students at the centre of their own education, allowing them to discover, embrace and fulfill their passions within relevant learning opportunities. Students who find learning a challenge are supported to help them understand their own learning styles and achieve success.
